Spider-Womans CUSTOM Legends

This is not my work. I wish I can decipher that signature on the left side so I can get a better picture quality and credit the person. Truly is an amazing picture for more than the perverted reasons!
Again, this is NOT my Spider-Woman. This is not my picture. My Spider-Woman Marvel Legends is still 'vanilla' version. As much as I love that figure though, I would love to commission a customized Spider-Woman complete with better articulation, better hair, more hands variation, a venom blast... the whole bells and whistles. As it is, this picture says it all.

One day.

----

If the person who owns this picture ever sees this post, please contact me and I will credit you and I would like to know 'how' you got this version. And I would like a better quality picture too.

Marvel Legends BAF: Thanos

Hellcat, Spider-Woman, Batroc, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man
I'm going to be honest when I say that I was super excited for this wave. Now if you just look at the line up, it's not exactly the best but I do have to say that Spider-Woman in the mix and Thanos as the BAF isn't such a bad idea. I adore Spider-Woman and Thanos is one of my favorite villains from Marvel. I didn't do the hunting since I knew that there would be some complication finishing this set due to Spider-Woman being a female figure and she has a decent fan following. I just ordered the whole wave and lo and behold here it is. I've had this set since March but reviewing has been slow for a lot of reasons. But finally got the actual BAF his own review post so, how does he fare?

Right off the bat it's easy to tell that this is not the classic Thanos that everyone is familiar with. To be honest, there is a handful of people out there who only recognize Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet and during that time he wore the classic outfit. Suffice to say, this is a revamped and 'modern' look of his (in)famous look way back when he slaughtered the entire Marvel Universe with the Gauntlet. Truth to be told, I like the classic look but I also understand the need for this new one. It has a much more 'now' look and hey, every character has to upgrade their looks(sadly, Spider-Woman didn't have to). Sad to say, I haven't read an issue of him wearing this costume but from the images I have seen, Copiel I believe drew him wearing this so I liked how he was in drawing form. His figure form, great mold, new body mold might I add, nice sculpting, and for the most part, aesthetically, I don't think too corners were cut. Nicely done.

Size wise, he isn't gigantic. He falls on the same height as Odin to be honest and I don't have a problem with that. A lot of peoples' complaints with this Thanos is that he isn't as colossal as the Thanos Select(one that I have that is still in its box) and/or lacking the gauntlet and Death. Again, this costume doesn't have Thanos wearing the gauntlet for a reason.

I can't say the same thing about his range of movement as I have said about his looks. Thanos lacks in articulation BECAUSE of some of his designs. That shoulder pad blocks movements, the waist 'guard' definitely prevents leg movements, and not to mention, there isn't a whole lot of wide range movements for Thanos that is 'iconic'. His standard pose of holding his hand up with the gauntlet is as epic as Thanos can get and lacking the energy flash and all that.

Then of course there's this particular thing he can do just fine with certain figures. Sure does look great when he is holding up one of his prize win, doesn't it? That arrogant grin along with the perfectly aligned fingers, then the well built stability of his weight makes poses like this well worth it. Truth to be told, I'm sure there are other Marvel characters that would be canon to this pose, but hell... why not put my favorite Marvel Super Heroine in distress(or the prelude to her real distress)?

Of course a standard rivalry! Captain Marvel versus Thanos!

As much as I like Iron Man, he doesn't stand a chance against the Mad God Titan!

In conclusion, Thanos is a magnificent figure. I can't really say that he will be the best BAF of 2015 as much as I'd like him to be. He has flaws and I'm not sure his aesthetics are enough to relieve him of those mishaps. One thing I will say is that despite all those, I am still highly enamored with this BAF for his reasons alone AND he came from a set with Spider-Woman as one of his BAF holder! Barton was a great addition to our obscure Marvel characters as well as Hellcat. The AoU figures were good but I could've asked for others. All in all, I'd say I'd give him a B-! Though he is a great addition to my villains galore!

ML Thanos BAF: Spider-Woman

This is the jewel of the whole set in my opinion. As an avid fan of Jessica Drew, I have to say that I have been waiting for an updated Legends of Spider-Woman for a long time. Without even going right in the review, I'm going to say that she is beautiful; fallible, but a very sensational figure. It is what Hasbro can provide and I'm not completely surprised that it is what it is. So, let's get right into the review starting with the box.

While there is nothing really new about this box, I do want to truly say that she just looks damn good. I have two Spider-Woman, one will remain in the box and the other to pose freely. Still possibly looking to get another one. Oh, and the side art is just arousing to say the least. Then again, it is Spider-Woman! Anything with her is delightful!

From the first time I saw this figure, I already knew that I was going to fall in love with it! Though the first images doesn't really do it justice. In fact, the first image I saw made her look rather awkward and clunky. Usually first release pictures don't really spend the time to flare up the figure's redeeming qualities and Spider-Woman was no exception. While I will scrutinize and explore this figure's let downs, I will greatly highlight what makes this figure probably a good runner up for Legends of the year(aside from the fact that it's Spider-Woman). So right off the get go, the "Moonstone/Ms. Marvel" mold is fitting for Jessica. Ms. Drew had always had that voluptuous and sexy body to her that using that mold is reasonable. Though I did wish they use a unique one for Spider-Woman, but that's me being super biased. The face is great with the red lips being luscious and the hair a decent sculpt(hindering, but we'll talk about that later). The paint job, well, one can't help but know that it's the Original, first, and the best(sorry Spider-Gwen) Spider-Woman.

Since Spider-Woman is one of the two femme fatale that can be bought to acquire Thanos's left arm and head, it's pretty obvious that we've seen this BAF piece before. Though it's a pretty easy bet who I would've bought if I had to pick between her and Hellcat! Accessory wise, Spider-Woman comes with a 'folded' wings alternative rather than the usual 'extended' wings. As a normal complaint I have, variant hands and venom blasts affect would have made this figure close to perfect. The 'open hands' prevents some fisticuff dynamic poses, and without some blasting affects, the figure falls short on some really authentic pose. Also, a variant unmasked head would have been nice. Or how about be super creative hasbro and do a Vernanke head variant?! But that would be too much thinking, wouldn't it?

Articulation department is where this figure really falls short. This mold is not very good with the more agile characters and Jessica being able to do whatever a spider can, it's kind of disappointing that her recent beautiful figure is unable to replicate her comic book moves. The figure suffers from the beautiful mold of her hair. Hasbro has yet to even consider a pliable and less restricting material for the hair. She can't look up very much which means there goes some flying pose or crawling pose(dare to replicate the Milaro cover? Wait someone else did). Her legs are highly hindered by the mold; not trying to be a perve but she can't spread her legs and do some of the things Spider-Woman can like this:

Bishoujo Spider-Woman
Amongst other things that this figure can't replicate but that is a 'classic' Spider-entity pose right there! Then of course the lack of variation for the hands truly takes away from what this figure can really do, doesn't it? Truly tempted to commission a few things about the figure to give it more 'flare'. She would be my first commission if I did that, and rightfully so.

But articulation aside, I can't really grip too much since the last Spider-Woman legends that we received from Toybiz is truly out dated and lacking any real flare as Jessica. She was really all bones and with heels on. The hands were huge and I bet if she wasn't wearing a mask, she would fall into what Toybiz was lacking: making good looking women. Though she did have the better articulation to than the two... almost to the fault actually. Just aesthetics alone I'd say Hasbro wins.

Here she is next to the Amazing Spider-Man:

The two Spiders of the Marvel Universe who have very little to nothing to do with each other. Though when they team up, I often think it's a cool thing since Spider-Man and Spider-Woman are still high in my list of favorite Marvel Characters. Like this cover:

So at any rate, I think I've spent a lot time with this figure. I truly wanted to get the most out of the figure I was waiting for the most. I mean, it's Spider-Woman! Hasbro has been on the role with making good looking 6' in Legends for a while! This one was well deserved!

In conclusion, there are plenty of let downs. Articulation and the lack of variation(hands, head) just dilutes what this could have been. But I wasn't surprised and I'm not overly disappointed. In the grand scheme of things, it's still a great Spider-Woman figure and again, if ever I was to make a commission with figures, it would be with this one. All in all, I think she is a must for anyone just collecting Avengers, those in need of completing their Spider-Verse, and of course to finish Thanos you should pick her. The better figure between her and Hellcat. If you are a Spider-Woman fan, she's a must. I'll tell you that she isn't perfect, but she's a hell of a lot closer than her toy biz version! But all in all, Thank You Hasbro for bringing me this figure!

(Please X-23, Domino, and NEW Psylcoke in the making please?)

ML Thanos BAF: Captain America (AoU)

The Age of Ultron craze keeps coming in! So with the last of the Cinematic figure from this wave is Captain America, played by Chris Evans once again! For those of you who are Captain America fans, Age of Ultron did not fall short of Captain America amazingness! As for the figure itself, well, let's review him shall we?

That shield looks huge!

Right off the get go, I immediately saw the repaint version of the Winter Soldier outfit from the Mandroid BAF. But I do have to say that the contrast of paint compared to the 'darker' stealth costume definitely almost makes it seem like a different figure altogether! Definitely mirrors Captain America's appearance in the movie and this mold was always a favorite of mine in terms of durability feel and just how much things are sculpted in him. The shield still still mars the potential fun factor of this figure(and the Stealth Suit Captain America that came before) since it's too big for him. That and I'm not a big fan of the way one has to do to put the shield in his arms. Still, a good looking figure aesthetically.

He does come with a mask-less variant head and pretty much the same alternate hands as the Stealth Suit Cap. Of course there goes the Thanos leg and the gargantuan vibranium shield. Not too much to look in here.

While he slightly resembles Chris Evans, it's still a good Steve Rogers head. I do like it better than the masked version so it's going to be pretty obvious that I preferred mask-less Cap. Besides, most of my Captain America figures have a mask/helmet on so this one is a change.

The articulation is nothing to get exuberant about because it's very familiar. It is the same mold as the Stealth Cap and Bucky Cap. He has all the proper articulation that everyone loves and wants. Suffice to say, this Cap can get into a bunch of pose that one can really expect. Again I'm not fond of that shield and I think it hinders a few great poses since it is so huge. And he doesn't use a gun in the movie, so it makes sense that he doesn't have one here. Though I would like it if he does have one.

Standing side by side with his First Avenger and Winter Soldier outfit, I have to say that it's quite a treat to see his costume changes. I don't have his Avenger uniform and I have to say, seeing his Age of Ultron suit, I don't think I can stand the mundane designs of that one. Though it could be considered 'classic' since it's his first cinematic appearance in a 'modern' costume with the rest of the crew.

If I was to pick one Captain America movie figure, I'd probably pick this one. He comes from an awesome set, and I happen to really like his outfit. All in all, I think this figure would be worth it. As a casual fan of Captain America, I hate the notion that my Caps are pushing the space to the limit... but hey, Captain America is probably the shining glory of Marvel. Can't have Marvel without this guy.

ML Thanos BAF: Iron Man MK 43 (AoU)

I won't try to tangent off to Age of Ultron but that movie was awesome! So, with a movie with that, of course Iron Man would be out with a new armor! So with that said, here's his new armor! Mark 43! So figure wise, is it as epic as it was in the movie? Let's find out.

Here's Iron Man in the box! Noting new with Hasbro's easy to swap packaging! So let's move on to the figure itself then, shall we?

This suit is exactly the same as his Iron Man 3 armor, the Mark 42, the only difference aesthetic wise is that the majority of it is red; Mark 42 was mostly gold. Function wise, in the movie, it seemed more stable. I think Stark perfected his 'sentry' program. So as an action figure, I think it's actually a bit more dull as mostly red. Now don't get me wrong, I do like the dominant red, but since his armors in the movie are almost always identical, minus a few little difference here and there, to have a strikingly different armor coloring scheme is something accepted. Though the figure does a fine job capturing the essence of the armor's look as how it appears on screen. The mold is something we have seen before so nothing really grand.

The only real difference with this figure and the figure with the exact same mold that came before is that this one comes with an alternate head. We'll take a good look of that later but let's just also take note that he also comes with one of Thanos' legs.

It doesn't really look like Robert Downey Jr. one bit, but at least it is a recognizable Tony Stark head. The one perk about this is that it works adequately with the Mark 42:

Mark 42
It actually looks better on Mark 42 to be honest. Okay so back to Mark 43.

His articulation isn't bad at all, but Hasbro doing nothing to fix the hands(variant hands ya think?!), this Iron Man is as limited as his Mark 42 form. One open palm(which barely represents a repulsor attack) and a closed fist may be ideal, but it restricts him from his signature flight pose, one hand fist takes him out of a lot of fight pose, so what can I say? It really does fall short in this department.

Though there are certain poses that I can get Stark in that really captures the Iron Man ambiance out of him.

There's some comparison pics between Mark 43 of this wave and Mark 42 from the Iron Monger BAF. Again, same mold and paint just inverted; it really does make a difference.

All in all, he is basically needed for the sake of finishing Thanos. I mean, how hard core is one to be an Iron Man to own this figure? For the sake of having Age of Ultron figures of Iron Man, I suppose its essential. Trust me though, one can't have enough Iron Man armors if one is an avid fan of the Iron Avenger! Though this figure does fall on a 6 out of 10 so that's a shame.

ML Thanos BAF: Hulk (AoU)

The green Goliath! Hulk has always been a stapled member of the Avengers despite his overall lack of control of his personality. Over the years that has changed and he has become more of a team member, and of course, with the movie Avengers, he seems to be more suitable for the job than the earlier comic book counter part of his. Being the first cinematic Hulk figure I own, how does this fare to the rest of my Hulk collection?

It's almost insulting to have Hulk smashed(pun) inside a small Hasbro box such as this one. If we were judging on size alone, I think Hulk would've made a good BAF, but let's be honest, if there are a five other Hulks that came before that weren't BAFs, why on Earth would it make sense that he would be one here? Well at any given rate, let's just jump on the figure and check him out.

I'm not a huge Hulk fan and I think I have made that known more than once. There is something awfully boring about Hulk and it may just be his aesthetics. Big brawny characters were never my type in any genre I am into. Slow, powerful, and just down right muscle is what Hulk is about; though he is the epitome of rage. Though for a Hulk figure, I say this one can pull it off both in cinematic point of view and comic book. This figure has the size, the mean look(does retain the Mark Ruffalo look, but Hulk has been drawn so many ways that this one can pass as comic book), the details on the muscle, and the right amount of green. Though one thing is that his pants does have an "Avenger" logo on it. It implies that Banner gets special pants that likely concurs with his 'condition' of always being angry. Oh, and this is 5th most used body mold Hasbro has; usually leans on the REALLY big male figures. Hulk is a proper candidate.

He lacks in accessory department. The right arm BAF piece of Thanos is the only thing he has to really offer. Wish he had the 'shock wave' clap alternate hands!

Articulation wise, well, he is surprisingly nimble for someone who just smashes, jumps really high, and yells for popularity. It's even more ironic that he has more agility to offer than some of the smaller figures that are suppose to be the fast, agile characters. It mostly has a lot to do with his leg articulation. This guy can do the splits if one really wants him to be in the pose. The one thing about this figure though is that he is too heavy for any of the figure stands that I own so no high jump poses for him. Also, no alternate hands leads him to limited dynamic poses.

House of M, King Hulk, Rulk, Grey Hulk, Planet Hulk, Maestro, and Spider-Hulk
So for someone who isn't a big fan of Hulk, I sure how a good amount, don't I? Honestly, it's hard not to have Hulk since he is a pretty popular character. I would imagine that I have a couple of other characters that fall in that category.

So all in all, I am glad that a movie Hulk is now in my possession. It's honestly a good figure and probably one of the most articulated ones I own. Would I want to own another Cinematic Hulk? Well if they do something to change his look, then possibly. All in all, I think I'm good with this Hulk. He does come in one of my most anticipated BAF set so why not?
