ML Dormamu BAF: Enchantress

Enchantress? ENCHANTMENTS! Wait, no. Okay, so here we are with the first female character that came from the Dr. Strange Wave. Is it just me, or isn't she from Thor's rogue of villains? Did she tangle up with Dr. Strange once in a while? Or is this wave going to touch base on some magical based characters? Well, with that said, let's get on with the figure review.

Enchantress gets no Dr. Strange logo on the top of her box nor does she have the Dr. Strange title. Makes sense since she is a comic book character based and not cinematic.

The artwork is pretty amazing. Though she looks a bit too calm for Enchantress. And the back shows her running change; a gal I will most likely review towards the end of this set.

Amora, aka Enchantress, is definitely played safe in her action figure form. She is given some familiar body parts from previous female Legends, and received her own sculpted hair; and I do believe her face is all new. She is pretty accurate as a character would go, but Enchantress' look has varied from artist to artist. Hasbro got her most familiar traits: green based, blonde hair, and the head piece that reminds me of Scarlet Witch's(speaking of Wanda).

The head does suffer from being slightly a bit too large, but for the most part, it fits. The body itself I have no problem with but those damn heels! Female characters with heels just makes them that much harder to pose in a way that they cooperate. And while I love the skirt, it doesn't quite cooperate with some poses. I'll explain more in the articulation section.

Enchantress doesn't have much to offer when it comes to accessories. She comes with Dormamu's torso and that familiar magical effect. I swear when I did the review of Scarlet Witch, I knew that Hasbro would be recycling this every chance they get. I do wish they gave her something more 'fire' looking instead of the hex look, but here we are with this. It's a bright neon green so it does fit her color scheme pretty well.

We get every bit of standard articulation from Enchantress. The fun factor is about as much as your average Marvel Legend figure; and average I mean ones with less than mediocre or mediocre accessories and absolutely nothing new to offer. Then she also has these heels that makes her hard to stand for a few certain poses. Had to fight just to get her to be up on her feet. Oh, and the skirt rides up a bit too high which makes her look awkward. But, in the poses I got out of her, she was spectacular looking. She still didn't replicate a lot of the Enchantress poses you would expect from the character, but it was good enough.

Love her or hate her, Amora is a must in this wave. Though for some, this is a recycled figure since Hasbro did release a comicon exclusive set that had her in there. I didn't get it for obvious reasons, so honestly this is a new figure to me. A pretty figure regardless, and a villainess. All in all, I like her enough but not enough to be 'wow'ed'. 

Marvel Legends BAF: Odin

Captain Marvel, Sentry, Iron Fist, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Thor

2015 started out with a bunch of BAFs lined up and Odin is the first that grazes my collection. Technically, this wave consists of two BAFs: Odin and King Thor; truthfully, I'm not in the mood to have two Iron Fists, Hawkeye, and Thor just to make King Thor. I might've missed Machine Man in the process, but I'm not complaining. For anyone who is unfamiliar with Odin, Marvel depicts him as the old lore does: The father of Odin and all the gods of Norse Mythology. In the movie universe, he is the king of the advance ancient race of aliens. This figure however is based off the comic book version(more or less since Odin changed forms more than once throughout the decades in comic book). So, what does the Allfather bring to the table for us collectors? Well, let's find out.

Well one thing is certain, Hasbro managed to implement an important detail: Odin is missing one eye. The picture I got makes him look like he is in a shy pose; my one gripe about the face is that the way his eye is positioned, it makes it hard to get him to really look a certain way without it looking awkward like this picture. Regardless, it's a good face sculpt. Love the helmet, the horns, even the beard has some slight details in terms of paint. Though it's hard to get articulation out of his head with the man beard. His helmet, though decently sculpted, could still use some better paint details; or maybe some regal colors like gold. Other than that, I say it looks like Odin regardless if Odin changed looks several times in his comic book life(I'm more than willing to believe that there is a bit of Anthony Hopkins in this Odin since everything in Marvel has to abide by the cinematic universe these days).

Groot was the last BAF I got so let's compare the two. Size wise, Groot gets the award. Though Odin isn't small by any means. Gone are the days of small BAFs indeed and I'm really happy that Hasbro is really getting a good flow with BAFs these days.

He has a new body sculpt( I believe) and for the most part he is well done. The wash on his paint detail could've been a bit more on the giving side, but hey, Hasbro is Hasbro. There is something about the way he is made that makes him look like just a normal warrior which undermines the idea of Odin being the KING of Norse Gods; but again, perhaps Odin had an armor like this some time in the past.

Odin has one accessory, which is his spear. I'm sure it has some kind of name but I am not bothering with it right now; I think it's Odin Spear honestly. Well, it's not bad looking; looks bland at some angles, but it does mirror the color and wash of his helmet; again my gripe about it is that it should have been a bit more regal colored. Then there's the axe(again it has a name) which belongs to King Thor. Though I didn't want to simply store the weapon so I decided to give it to Odin just to imply that he is ready for all out battle. Not a bad looking weapon, though it dwarfs in comparison to the presence of Odin's spear and the overall ambiance Odin has.

Odin actually has a decent articulation; in fact he falls a bit more in the expected form of movement range! Though his clothing, the stiff cape and all hinders a lot of movement. I already mentioned the beard and how his head has the funny eye going on so that crosses out certain poses. Though generally, one doesn't need to have a lot of fancy poses for Odin. It's not like he is the nimble, agile, and even hand to hand kind of character.

That is all the pose one really needs for Odin most of the time. That and probably beating up both Thor and Loki for constantly arguing.

In conclusion, Odin isn't a bad BAF at all. He is above mediocre and is different. Honestly, it's really his set, the figures that came with him that made him worth it. Figures like Scarlet Witch, Iron Fist, and Captain Marvel is what made him stand out to me. I have no desire to finish King Thor so again, I'll be missing out on Machine Man but who cares? For anyone looking to have Thor be side by side with his father, this wave is a must! Other than that... can't wait for the next wave! 

ML Odin: Thor(Marvel Now!)

With a BAF wave that is dedicated to the All-Father, one can't simply not have a Thor figure in it! So, here we are! Odin's most popular Marvel son! So, how does he make the All-Father all proud?

Thor swinging Mjolnir in that greyscale art. Nice! Oh, Hasbro started adding scotch tape for a more secure box to deter "swappers". Yeah!

Thor's updated look for the "Marvel Now" story line isn't half bad. It pays homage to his 'classic' and out of place costume but gives it the 'Viking' look nonetheless. One thing about this figure is that he is huge and scaled adequately for a Thor. His cape may be too stiff for my taste, however, it has some shading in it! It's well done. The profile picture makes his arms really way too muscular and his legs looks like he skipped leg days. Other than that, a good looking figure for anyone who is a fan of Thor.

For Odin's BAF piece, Thor comes with right leg. As for his own accessories, Thor has to have Mjolnir and a sword which I believe came from the "Fear Itself" storyline; other than that, I have no idea what the sword really is about. Standard accessories and not TOO bad. Though again, lacking some kind of thunder special affect on his hammer and the fact that the said hammer doesn't look as enchanting... it's not that great. The sword is alright when it comes to detail; wish it had that same silver shine as Mjolnir.

Now his articulation is where he fails the most. First off, his head cannot look up, down, or side to side very well. That fancy cape and helmet hinders so much movement that it is truly annoying to pose him. His arms are facing the cape-in-the-way dilemma, then we have his awkward legs; also he has no ankle pivot. Dynamic poses are few and far betweens and even some of his easy posing has very little weight to it. The hammer really missed the nail on this figure when it came to articulation! Perhaps if he had some kind of thunder affects going about his hammer that is detachable, there would have been a bit more flare to this figure's pose. Such a shame since he looks damn amazing for a Thor figure.

Between him and the only other Thor figure that I have, this is definitely the better figure. The one I have, the King Thor from the Blob series isn't that great to begin with so it's for sure shelved. Though they both feel about the same in terms of articulation; I just like Marvel Now's costume better.

The only other "Thor" related figure I have is Beta Ray Bill from the MODOK BAF (unless we count Thor Buster of Iron Man from the same series) series from toybiz. Suffice to say, I like Beta Ray Bill better if I was to compare the two, then again, they are two entirely different characters. It's like comparing USAgent or War Machine with Captain America or Iron Man.

All in all, a good looking figure and for the sake of the BAF, he is a must. Though with his short comings in articulation, I'm sure some people can skip this figure altogether; I did need a new Thor figure and this one sort of delivered. Glad I have him nonetheless.

Final Fantasy I

Iron Man 3 the Official Game

So all of the games above I am playing in my iPhone. While I'm not avidly playing them like I do my console games(I don't play games as fervently as I used to anyways), they are a bit of a time consumer when I am out and about and killing time. None of them are ground breaking games but they are somewhat worthy of the time allotted! Iron Man 3 is like a Stark version of temple run while the other two are turn based rpgs. Though I have some major qualms with the Marvel one since it is more or less a gimmick to make money....

"V.V" and Kamea

Now this game has my attention(as sparse as it is) in gaming. D2 may have lost a few points when they took out a few things that the third and fourth one made(Monster weapon! The Monster riding does not fit my battle style!!!! Or aesthetics for that matter) adequate for my liking, it's still a good game. The return of the trio bodes really well and the chemistry is still refreshing as it was ten years ago! Some job classes are still needed, but I have a feeling I'll forget about some of them with the newest additions and the reviving of old classes and monsters.

Insanity can still pervade all over the place, but still missing a few more things that made Disgaea 3 and Disgaea 4 fantastic! But again, a really addicting game! 

Marvel Legends BAF: M.O.D.O.K

Modok Series: Beta Ray Bill, Captain Marvel, Wasp, Spider-Woman, Thorbuster Iron Man, Moon Knight

So this particular character that Marvel has swings on just comical and somewhat nefarious looking in my point of view. He is a gigantic head with arms, legs, and a hover craft. I'm nowhere near joking in regards to this either because just from the picture on the right alone, it's pretty obvious that the 'profile' picture IS his whole upper torso! So with that said, out of all the BAFs I have finished this year, he is probably the MOST unique out of all of them. I mean, I'm not exactly exaggerating in the notion that HE IS just a big head with arms, legs, and a hover craft.

On face value(pun!) one can really say that Modok doesn't have a lot to offer in regards to articulation. Absolutely correct. His arms and legs have the basic bends and swivels, but still limited with the gigantic head. And the head itself has no articulation; would've been something if they gave expression capability, but not sure if that could've worked with details still intact.

Making him stand would be almost impossible so Toybiz was prudent by adding the 'jet fire' affect and allows him to stand like so. And again, it's all in the details, more or less.

I mean there is something aesthetically pleasing with his fire affect if just taken from the idea of design standpoint and nothing else. I mean as it goes with all these BAFs, taking them apart isn't entirely the best thing so once the fire affect is in, I would fathom it SHOULD stay in because wear and tear would be a factor to the toy's durability.

Stature wise, this guy stands up on his own within the range of 7 to 8 inches I say. Didn't do an accurate count but that is a more than astute assumption in regards to his height relative to Iron Monger over here. Honestly, he has some size to him; an average BAF of Hasbro these days I would say. Other than details, Modok doesn't have much to offer as I already pointed out with his posing capability. He is VERY limited in that aspect so don't expect a whole lot of posing from it default wise. Aside from the intricacy of his details, the series does come with some pretty good characters and noteworthy variants so he is worth the chase(Iron Man's variant is Destroyer; whom might I add is hell of a lot more expensive now since his appearance in Thor). If you are looking for an oddball character in the set, he is for sure a must that and if you are anything like me, the characters that came with him are appealing to REALLY build him.

And the new BAF pitches in to fill up my 'new shelf' that used to be Bishoujo owned. But there were and some more changes coming to my game room so... yeah. Until next time!

A given favorite that came with Modok. While the Thorbuster isn't my favorite armor that Stark donned, it still Iron Man and of course the lovely Spider-Woman(who was Veranke the queen of Skrulls at the time this action figure came out).

"This Movie"

It's pretty clear to the whole entire genre that this movie was probably the biggest hit. The Avengers hit certain points that would perhaps pave the road for MANY comic book movies along the way. suffice to say, it's no wonder it's my #1 movie. With the right cast (both fiction and actor wise), the proper amount of story, some easter eggs for comic book lovers, and of course the extraordinary action along with the somewhat cheesy but whimsical humor, this movie will be hard to tackle.

Baby Avengers!

So the conclusion of Marvel's 12 round event is finally here. Well the conclusion and the aftermath, of course. I have graced myself with owning two of the comic books; the main event issue 12, and the aftermath of what the Avengers series will be going through. The variant cover I got, the Baby Marvel picture is going to be fitting for the comic wall of another room I will soon design. Truth to be told, these two comic books are only attracting cover wise; the content inside... well not so much.

Cover is Great!!!

My main qualms with comic book these days, especially with the common trends of Main Event cross overs is the lack of consistency. Now I'm somewhat used to the whole AWESOME cover and atrocious inside art debacle... I am not at peace with it, but I am learning how to deal with it... but to change artists during main events?! Issue 12's last artist does not give this conclusion justice! Especially when the first artist was one I am not a big fan of! Then somewhere in the middle it changed to Coipel... I was having hope! Not to mention that the said cover is insinuating SOMETHING with Iron Man, but inside the book... totally not what it was going for. SO suffice to say...

The last issue was a disappointment. But at least I take solace in the more than enticing cover art!!!!
