New Trailers

I'm a bit late on these but it's time to add a little more nerd zest in this glum and gloom side of my web. So... let's take a gander at Marvel's line up:

Civil War: While I didn't expect it to go canon wise with the comic book, it does feel a bit.... TOO different. Civil War is one of my favorite story line in the Comic Book realm of Marvel. Really struck a note in me. While I have faith in this movie rendition, I just really miss that grand feel that was conveyed in the comic book realm.

X-Men Apocalypse: I have to say, I haven't been excited about an X-Men movie for a long while now. Here it is then! I hate to say it, I wish there was more Psylocke in the trailer. It's probably the ONLY reason why I want to watch this movie.

Well... here's DC's line up:

Dawn of Justice: Okay so I'm not going to say I'm not impressed with this trailer because I am. There definitely is a lot for Comic Book fans and for any who are Big time DC fans, this should evoke nerdgasm or two. For me.... WONDER WOMAN! Doomsday though?

Well, there you have it. Personally, I'm looking forward to ALL the Comic Book movies coming out in 2016. These two are the heavy hitters though to the majority of fans. Though I am a bit excited for Suicide Squad.

And on the GAMING WORLD......

Final Fantasy VII: THEY ARE NOT F@CKING around! Woo boy! Looks like the old ways has joined the new! If I don't have a ps4 by the time this game comes out, I'm going to buy one!

Suicide and Justice

Suicide Squad: DC is doing something that Marvel has yet to do and that is making a movie that is based on a group of bad guys forced to do something good. Some of these characters are unknown to me because of the fact that it's only "recently" that I started getting into DC, but everyone knows who Harley Quinn is and she is in the movie. Heck, she's the highlight of the movie. Some might abhor this adaptation of Harley, but I say it's rather cute. It's not the 'canon' looking Harley but come on, I think there is something to be said about change. But I suppose it's all about how the movie pulls her off, huh? And I'm not going to gripe on Joker since .... well, I'm not the biggest fan of the last Joker we saw in the big screen. Suffice to say, I'm excited for this movie.

Dawn of Justice: This is DC's supposed big introduction to Justice League; DC's answer to Marvel's Avengers. Between this and Suicide Squad, I'm more excited for Suicide Squad. I wasn't the biggest fan of Man of Steel; though I think it was decent, it didn't really feel like it was going to lift DC into the momentum that they needed to be. The new Batman seems fitting. Wonder Woman (in the few seconds we saw her) seems adequate enough. But we'll see.

Keep them rolling DC. We need some DC competition in the big screen to keep Marvel on their toes.

Some SDCC 2013 News

The closest Comic-Con to me and I have yet to make it to one. Sad, I know. I should be revoked of my Avenger hero card. Regardless, I know one day I WILL attend Comic-Con. Just not this year for a myriad of reasons. But let's give some updates on certain things that caught my attention as I glanced at the news that are being distributed from the major geekness event.

Avengers 2: "Age of Ultron": The whole "Age of Ultron" title has a bit of a bad taste in a lot of Comic Book fans mouth. Rightfully so. While I didn't read the Comic Book Even "Age of Ultron", I did just read highlights and fan feed back and for the most part, it was a lot of negativity. I won't go in the details but it was a mess. But from the news I have recieved in regards to Avengers 2, it's going to be a different beast altogether. More or less, it's going to be the origins of Ultron. No Hank Pym though. Strange. I've been on the pendulum in regards to comic book movies as of late, but watching Man of Steel lately(Irony is Stark) revitalized my excitement. So if they start showing some previews for this and it looks promising, then I'll be even more excited.

Guardians of the Galaxy: I was skeptic about this ever since they announced it. I'm not entirely enthused with the idea of an 'Avenger' from space; though the bold attempt in making a movie about a NOT so mainstream characters is something I can respect. That and Zoe Saldana playing as Gamora? And Rocket Raccoon on the big screen?!

World's Finest: As I mentioned before that Man of Steel REALLY put a good hype into solo comic book movies for me. It had a great comic book feel to it, it had a lot of good action, and the rich background really touched every 'father's day' heart. With Batman and Superman being two prominent father figures of comic book heroes I think this movie has a HUGE potential. There are plenty of things to consider though like Villains? Side characters that are special to the two powerhouse? Will this lead to a JLA movie? Time will tell but I have confidence in this movie! Much more than for the X-Men's Days of the Future Past(cringing at that movie).

Lastly, MarvelousNews.com has been very kind with their updates that are all SDCC related. I've been paying attention to their updates constantly and of course to the line ups of Hasbro Legends and Universe. While controversy are popping up left and right with how things are going about, I still think that the line up of toys are allowing for a fresh and promising things.

Well that's about it. Hopefully next year I'll ACTUALLY be in the spot updating through my own means and stuff. Til then, thank you for everyone who are keeping me updated and posting pictures and such and of course to the sites that are more than exuberant with the news about movies, toy lines, etc. Much appreciated!

Damsel Of The Month:

LoZ
Name: Lois Lane

Series/Game: Superman; DC Comics

Some Words: Superman Month. The Man of Steel movie comes out this month and what more adequate damsel to enter this realm than none other than Superman's main squeeze herself: Lois Lane! You want to talk about a 'classic' damsel! This gal has out aged April O'Niel, Penny Gadget, Penelope Piststop, and just about all of my other Damsel pick since October. Part of me wants to say that she paved the way for the plethora of damsels in the mainstream and not a lot of DiD lovers would deny that statement. Just that first picture there of that comic book alone dates farther back than most of the first appearance of the well known damsels! OTN, OTM, Cleave.... rail road tracks... underwater peril... bomb on the lap... chair tie... etc etc. Lois Lane did it all in the mainstream way before I even learned to tie a knot on my shoes!

I'm not going to dive TOO heavily in her lore since it's pretty simple. Superman's girlfriend, villains exploit that, put her in some dastard peril, make her bait, and boom. Not a big fan of Superman myself, but I have to thank him that he is an expert in rescuing her so that she may find herself in peril over and OVER again. This has been the same formula form her first few appearances and even to her most common one! And that notion applies to both comics and animated series/movies! Though just to be a bit biased, I love her 90's animated series look.

The recent brief scene with Superman: Unbound kind of pays homage to her animated 90's look and adding in that 'mild' bondage scene spells reverence as well.

You don't need X-Ray vision for this clock work event.
Even the past adheres to this idea.
I mean, to have a host like Harley Quinn(Like Catwoman) is a great enough scene to deem her noteworthy as a damsel!

Now again, her rank in Damsel rating had always been way before the animated version of her. She has more than enough knots in her belt in comic books, the real life series, animated movies, parodies, and of course the constant fan fiction and fan art!

That's a good collection of damsels! Thanks Loz

Yup. gag needed.
Unfortunately my collection of Lois' perils aren't as justifying as her appearance in bondage. Shame. But just with the little I am able to flaunt in this little area of the web should be enough to highlight. Thought the ones I am able to accumulate within my grasp does enough justice (league har har!). With so many scenes to judge her with her rope work, the release of Man of Steele, and the fact that Lois has been a damsel far longer than most/all of the prominent faces of the D.I.D. community, I'd say June is a perfect month for her. Now as for her future, I'm sure she will have her share. Though it seems that mainstream bondage for D.I.D. may be becoming less and less intriguing and such scenes are becoming holy grails with how sparse they are. With that said, it's good to know that we have a lot of things to look back on when it comes to Lois Lane. She has been a fine model of struggling and rope bruises for decades and decades now. Hey, perhaps with the new Man of Steele movie, there might even be a brand new animated series to capitalize on the movie!

If that's the case, we'll get more of this^ and less of...

That.

How's that for a mouthful of regrets? Anyways, that's it for this month. Till next time! Hm... July.

DC Animated: "Apocalypse"

Diana: "The Title is EASY to misconstrue."
Well this is compare and contrast with the graphic novel that I recently read: Superman/Batman Vol. 2: Supergirl. Both fairly 'old' but again, I am a 'new' fan of DC so suffice to say, I'm behind a bit on a few things. That goes for both movie and comic book wise.

The whole joke with the title not only applies to the Trinity lack of homage, but also to the fact that it should've really just adhered to the Comic Book's title which is "Supergirl". The whole duration of the movie/graphic novel is that there are opposing forces that holds the thread of the Kara's fate on the Universe. Batman not concurring with Superman but abide by Wonder Woman's ways, then we have Darkseid who is, Darkseid; plain jane testament of Evil and just wants to extort all the powers this new Krytonian has to offer as his villainess general; which completes his harem fantasy if you ask me long with Granny Goodness.

Aside from the title, there are a few things that is different from the graphic novel. One most prominent thing is that you won't see a plethora of DC characters as you do in the graphic novel. I'm not entirely sure whether to say that it was too much artwork or perhaps there are legalities involved, but again, the ending scene where Superman reintroduces Kara as Supergirl, it's not a barrage of colorful Heroes and Heroines, instead it's insipid bare legged sensual but ass kicking Amazons to serenade the "Maiden of Might"(oh my god that is a funny name) in her entrance as the panty shot cousin of the Man of Steel.

Oh yeah. Supergil gets a bondage scene as well. Nothing like an apparatus to deter super strength from tearing apart meager ropes, huh, Kara?

Okay, moving on then. Let's talk about the other thing that is a big difference in the movie adaptation of the graphic novel.

The battle scenes! Wonder Woman and Barda's fight against the Furies was probably one of the best damn fight scene I have seen in an animated movie. And yes there is a bondage scene in that one as well.

Well, an innuendo of such considering that the whip donning gal(don't know her name and don't bother to care) got her face kneed in with Barda's hands bound behind her. Okay moving on from that preference, seriously, it was such an enthralling display of skill from both these warrior women! A cat fight with serious tooth and claw involve and a few whips and lassos, toss in some blades and juggernaut strength and we have ourselves a battle maiden fan service! A bit of mature scenes of blood and violence is at hand and it served it just right. It wouldn't be a very provocative fight without such shows; basically, this isn't your animated series of Batman and the JLA.

The Superman/Supergirl v.s. Darkseid scene was also something to gawk at. While Superman pretty much got the tar beat out of him, Supergirl stood up to the plate and gave Darkseid a beating for a few minutes. Again a rather whimsical way of exploiting what this gal COULD do in the battlefield against a powerhouse(and a rather mundane fighter; mr. OMEGA BEAMS) by the artist's hand! And it really showed a good display of just how dangerous Darkseid is even with two whose strength and abilities are akin to one another! Let me blatantly point out that this fight scene served more justice than the graphic novel!

A lack luster in contrast.
Sadly, as much as I wanted to see it, Batman got very little appraisal in his fight scenes. Well, what little he did have in the graphic novel against Darkseid was taken away, though again, everything else that made Batman who he is in the graphic novel was accentuated with Kevin Conroy's voice behind it. Still, he was kind of lame fisticuffs wise.

At any given rate, while still adhering to the story and updating the fight scenes, this movie did a stellar job. I recommend it; at least rent it for a frugal price. I enjoyed both book and movie honestly, but I have my qualms about one and the other as well as my liking. But what both don't lack is...

Wonderful.
Ahem. Anyways! That's it for now. Oh, if you want visuals of the "Maiden of Might" in her duds, you won't get a whole hell of a lot of it in this movie.

S'about it.

Superman & Batman vol. 2: Supergirl

I did mention that there is something about the Lost Daughter of Krypton that is rather alluring, did I not(Catching My Attention). I know, I'm a bit behind since the 'first appearance' of Kara was way back when in 2007, but one can't fully admonish me because I wasn't really into DC until the revelation of the New 52. So at any given rate, here we are now and I'm 'catching up' with the lore of Superman's cousin.

The first few 'days' of Supergirl was introduced with the 'Trinity's'(or actually the powerhouse duo of Superman and Batman) second volume which was called: 'Supergirl'. Truthfully, I never really found out about this graphic novel until I watched the movie adaptation. Michael Turner was the main artist for the book and there is something whimsical and alluring about the way he draws women; he did justice with Supergirl, though some of his men look a bit odd. Perhaps he is one of those that is just more adaptable to the female side of the art. Regardless, overall it was good to look at and Batman looked like Batman. The art wasn't something to abhor but again I was more impressed with his female drawings than I was with his men. Or maybe perhaps I'm not the biggest fan of looking at Superman in his old red underwear-Tights-cape-classic apparel.

The story puts Supergirl into the spotlight in a way that is, sad to say, cliched. Though I won't disdain completely since it is a good way to introduce the newly formed Girl of Steel into DC universe in that time. Apparently a girl who has more power than Superman(the ship has modified yellow sun rays in them so she spent a lot of time super tanning), the likes of Batman and Wonder Woman both concurred that her powers cannot just go uncheck and she needs proper training while Superman nonchalantly just wants to introduce her to the world the same way that he was. Regardless of the fact the Man of Steel and the two had qualms with the two options and even Kara herself is not even allowed a choice since they just see her as a naive and super powered teenager. And Super powered is just the thing that a certain someone sees in her.

That's a lot of booty. Wonderful.
Yup, none other than the Thanos of the DC universe, Darkseid. While everyone of course wants to lead this young gal to the good road whether through formalities of feminine military or civilian triviality, Darkseid who delves into evil doing with great vehemence, of course wants to raise the would be Supergirl as an entity of pure evil. The untapped powers in his opinion should be standing side by side with him in Apokolips(with Granny Goodness... lol). Of course the Trinity would have nothing of the sort and when Supergirl was taken in by Darkseid(a huge battle occurred in which I'll just keep the details out of sight), they implore a former Apokolips resident, Barda(for a pretty girl, that name sure is cringing) and the four of them invade Darkseid's ball of fire of a planet.

After all is said and done, Kara finally dons the famous-sensually-panty-shot-skirt-filled Supergirl outfit.  Well, another fisticuffs transpires between Darkseid and the Man of Steel, but we'll skip that as well until I do the comparison between the movie and this graphic novel.  The whole JLA and the myriad of other popular teams of DC at that time are introduced to the new Supergirl and well, the endeavor of a young lost Daughter of Krypton begins. The first of her series is called 'Power' and I read it as well and sometime down the road I will be doing a recap on it. As for this graphic novel? Again I enjoyed it. Art overall had the proper aesthetics though watching the movie first, I was a bit torn since I did enjoy somethings in the movie more than the book; regardless, if anyone wants to get to know the new Supergirl before the New 52, this book offers it. I'd say for the price I paid after a few so years, it was damn good.

Catching My Attention

There is something charming about the Lost Daughter of Krypton. And no, it's not just the notion of her wearing a skirt! She is enticing in vanity, yes, but beyond that, I can astutely say that despite her cliched story and background in the comic book world, there is still something to be said with Superman's cousin. I've been doing a some watching and some 'studying' with this young gal and I must say, I'm liking what I am seeing/reading. I am even going as far as possibly purchase some of her books from way back in the 2006 and 2007! Watching a couple of the DC animated movies too involving her is rather enticing as well. Anyways... that's it for now.

My Words On:

Story/Plot: Fighting games aren't popular for their story. The usual flow is terse, incoherent, and usually have a potent feel of it being rushed. The casual tactic when it comes to fighting games is the gameplay and the multiplayer capability it has to offer; the longevity of pitting one's mettle against others online and locally. Some of the most popular and long lived fighting games care not to change the idea of this stigmata because it's all about the fun factor of the gameplay. Injustice makes a stand for this genre and steers away from that more than norm idea; and with the substantial amount of lore that DC comics can delve into, it's only right that Injustice has something more than decent to deliver!

There would be a usual formula to a DC comic book based game/movie of course that involves Superman(and I'm not DC hating, Marvel seems to have the same redundant formula going about especially with how much The Avengers sky rocketed) which involves the ever so evil genius Lex Luthor, some Kryptonite, Superman and Lois, then of course the Justice League. So there is no way around the notion that there will be some of those of course; Superman being the heavy hitter of the JLA, how can he NOT be there? Lois, Luthor, Kryptonite, all of these are for sure involved but the great thing is that Injustice swerved away from the usual tandems of the expected and the created story and its twist is actually enamoring! They really concocted something that is comic book friendly, zestful in character fan service, and the sparse 'solo' of each characters involved really had some good homage to them.

Some of these characters don't get their justice until one plays through the 'classic' play through; characters that were bland in the main story mode like Hawkgirl will get her attention in the said play through if the player decides to delve into that route. There will be a couple of images and tap a bit into the background of how and what nots in regards to the storyline of the game. Though frankly, much like A LOT of DC main story lines, it's all about Superman and his endeavors; at least that's how I feel like. Rivalries are hardly fathomed, but I suppose for Batman and his conflicts with Joker and Harley Quinn, it gets enough attention in a world so grand and filled with possibilities.

It's for sure a DC fan teaser in regards to the game's plot. But I can only surmise that there will be enough hardcore comic book fans that will shun down on what this game tried to do. But can't please everyone but I will remain vigilant that this is one of the best stories a fighting game has had to offer.

8/10

Gameplay: So this is the bread and butter of fighting games! For those who are familiar with the makers of this game, they are the creators of Mortal Kombat; and of course everyone SHOULD know that Mortal Kombat is one of the hard hitting fighting games for the past few generations of avid fight based gaming. So there is some pretty good background behind this game; it's not the first rodeo the makers rode. With that said, personally, as a Street Fighter Fan, I wasn't TOO enthused with the fighting gameplay at first. My prowess with the SF genre somewhat disdains my skill to adapt fully with the Mortal Kombat based engine. I thought I was going to have problems.

Just like I discerned long before my final decision to purchase this game the gameplay is indeed Mortal Kombat ambiance but placed in the capable hands of DC characters. Twenty four DC characters to be exact! Each different, and each paying some good homage to their comic book selves! The very well known characters like Wonder Woman and Batman would have their trademark weapons; the Amazon and her lasso(and with the New 52 her sword and shield becoming more prominent) while the Dark Knight having his gadgets on the whim. Then the less known characters like Hawk Girl having her mace and then Raven being able to use her dark arts quite exuberantly. Nether Realm did an eloquent job displaying the heroes and villains with their trademarks and at the same time smoothly connecting them to the fighting world.

And while all characters play differently for obvious reasons, there are the basic functions of trademark techniques that can be applied with button combinations. Along with the regular melee of light and hard strikes, techniques can be linked and the player can create a hard hitting combos that can be as detrimental to their opponents while at the same time be aesthetically pleasing. Being able to time the movements are the key to making cohesive combos and the more the player is able to connect move per move, the more damage one will inflict(obviously).

And what is a fighting game without super moves? Nether Realm made sure to have this as part of the player's ammunition! Again, paying homage to each character, the whimsical and somewhat redundant sequence can be accessed by pressing buttons together! Damaging and lengthy, these moves can be a HUGE factor to end the match(to lose or to win). While not particularly hard to execute for a fighting game's standpoint, there is of course the notion of timing correctly in order to inflict such long animated sequence.

A unique essence that this game has is the 'wager' system which of course is all about how much 'super move bar' the player has accumulated and how much s/he is willing to put down against his/her opponent. It's basically rock paper scissors to an extent. Nether Realm of course puts its 'interactive environment' signature but puts a bit more zeal into it! Simply put, walls can be broken and depending on what stage there are different outcomes! Arkham Asylum's walls will have Batman villains Croc or Scarecrow inflict damage on the victim while stages like Metropolis will have flying cars that can be used to hit one's opponents. If not for damage value, the interactive environment does add a jovial sense of victory/loss and some stages offer DC fan service! Again, not too difficult to do, just a matter of knowing one's position and timing!

Oddly enough in the story mode, there is a bit of QTE involved. Very scarce, but enough to kind of smirk at the idea that quick time events are becoming more and more popular. Nothing too great and the game's story mode could've lived without it.

The game on it's own was fun and I will be playing it for a while since it getting old isn't in the near future. I do enjoy just how bold this game is and it tried a few things a lot of fighting game can't really implement in their formula. Great job nether realm! You made my first fighting game purchase this year very well worth it!

9/10

Graphics:

If only the gameplay art is as good as the mode selection background is then this game would be getting most visually pleasing of the year! But of course, it's only a means of decoration and not actual gameplay. With that said, I'm not going to complain much at all since the game itself looked great! The in-game cut scenes have a bit of an awkward pace to them; again it wasn't abhorrent, but it was just a bit misplaced in certain statures I think. But again, it served its purpose.

Combat graphics were amazing. Vibrant and full of life, each sequence does well to adhere to someone like Green Lantern who uses green light to conjure up whatever weapon his will can take him and all the while keeping someone like Solomon Grundy true to his undeadl-y and immortal way to pommel someone to bits(though he is a rip off of Hulk with his lines; then again, Hawk Girl saying "Time to put the hammer down"?). Each character has their alluring qualities to them and Nether Realm made sure to capture the deviously innocent visage of Harley Quinn as well as making sure that Doomsday keeps his  ugly rock like face! The interactive background also did the game Justice; the more the player and his/her opponents duke it out, the more damage and chaotic the said background can be.

This game deserves a good rating graphically. Again, I have no real complaints.

9/10

Difficulty: Once can only capsulize the difficulty level of this game in two categories. I'll start with the campaign side of things. First and foremost, getting the hang of the game, the mechanics, the timing, the wager system, etc. takes a decent amount of gaming. Then of course there's getting accustomed to a certain character that is palatable for one's fighting style, then getting to know each level and how to use the interactive environment to his/her advantage. There is a myriad of things one must really get a grip on before actually diving into the campaign mode which, on its own(on normal difficulty) isn't TOO bad. My main qualms is using characters I don't necessarily concur with; then of course certain characters are much more of a nuisance to deal with and so it could raise the level just a bit.

Online gaming is a different beast altogether since there are various range of gaming calibers one would encounter! I for one isn't the best player out there so just like my experience in MvsC3, I will most likely get eviscerated by the plethora of players out there. Skills of other players will probably be the bane of me as well as cheap tactics that other players would conjure up. Then again, winning with no qualms of dignity is usually a norm in the online gaming world so one shouldn't be appalled at that experience.

This game could really push one's mettle or perhaps drive one to the limits depending on the threshold of the gamer. I for one don't have that much patience online so I'll probably play, get beat a few times and then call it quits for a bit. All in all though, it is a game worthy of a challenge.

8/10

Voice Acting/Audio: Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman which is always a plus! And surprisingly, Jennifer Hale comes in as Hawkgirl which is also a great addition to the voice acting crew.   Reaffirming her role, Tara Strong comes back as Harley Quinn which of course is also a plus. The rest of the crew aren't that bad, though I would have my preference like Nathan Fillon being Green Lantern and of course Mark Hamill as the Joker would've been scintillating, but again, can't have everything our way now can we?

Dialogue seems fluent and not so asinine so good actors and mediocre ones are put to good use so again in that avenue of the game it takes flight. Music has a bit of presence behind it, though it sometimes abates the feeling of the intense comic book vibe rather than make it more intense. The reverberating sound of fire power, whips slapping, swords slashing, and water running rampant accentuates the chaotic battlefield real nicely so there are no qualms on that end. Again, a solid area as well; me not having Nathan Fillon and Mark Hamill does put a hamper in me being completely enamored by it, though I suppose Joker and Green Lantern did a good enough job to make me somewhat retract my rather harsh judgement.

Tara Strong; Yup. A winner.

7/10

Overall: Iconic comic book characters placed in an environment adequate for their destructive battle, diabolical plans of some of the world's most nefarious villains mixing with the morals of super heroes, combat that can pervade in many different paths depending on player's choice character and ability, of course I'm not going to exude the notion that it is also visually appealing! In the grand scheme of things, Injustice did a fine job laying out a comic book fighting game that stuck with the comic's roots as much as it possibly can! And that's one thing I do appreciate, just by the character's techniques and the way they fight, Nether Realm did spend some time making sure it would hit some good notes with Gamers and Comic Book geeks!

The roster on its own has plenty of exploring to do and that's not even counting the idea that there will be DLCs on the way with additional characters! Then if you are anything like me, even the alternate outfit will do some justice since I am a fan of variations when it comes to apparels! Longevity is a potential for this game and since it's a breath of fresh air from my usual Capcom-fighting-genre-yearly-purchase, I would surmise that it would for sure have a bit more life since it is a breath of fresh air. All in all, I'd say if this was the only fighting game I bought this year, I am satisfied.

With that said, I may have a 'final score' for this game, but my ranting is far from over. In the coming months(and in my spare time if I have some) I will be jotting down some notes on this game; if I ever steer away from trying to 'level up' my prowess with Hawkgirl, I'll be trying out other characters and depending on how prominent they are, I will for sure have a bit of words in regards to them. Anyways.

8.5/10
