Diana: "The Title is EASY to misconstrue." |
The whole joke with the title not only applies to the Trinity lack of homage, but also to the fact that it should've really just adhered to the Comic Book's title which is "Supergirl". The whole duration of the movie/graphic novel is that there are opposing forces that holds the thread of the Kara's fate on the Universe. Batman not concurring with Superman but abide by Wonder Woman's ways, then we have Darkseid who is, Darkseid; plain jane testament of Evil and just wants to extort all the powers this new Krytonian has to offer as his villainess general; which completes his harem fantasy if you ask me long with Granny Goodness.
Aside from the title, there are a few things that is different from the graphic novel. One most prominent thing is that you won't see a plethora of DC characters as you do in the graphic novel. I'm not entirely sure whether to say that it was too much artwork or perhaps there are legalities involved, but again, the ending scene where Superman reintroduces Kara as Supergirl, it's not a barrage of colorful Heroes and Heroines, instead it's insipid bare legged sensual but ass kicking Amazons to serenade the "Maiden of Might"(oh my god that is a funny name) in her entrance as the panty shot cousin of the Man of Steel.
Oh yeah. Supergil gets a bondage scene as well. Nothing like an apparatus to deter super strength from tearing apart meager ropes, huh, Kara?
Okay, moving on then. Let's talk about the other thing that is a big difference in the movie adaptation of the graphic novel.
The battle scenes! Wonder Woman and Barda's fight against the Furies was probably one of the best damn fight scene I have seen in an animated movie. And yes there is a bondage scene in that one as well.
Well, an innuendo of such considering that the whip donning gal(don't know her name and don't bother to care) got her face kneed in with Barda's hands bound behind her. Okay moving on from that preference, seriously, it was such an enthralling display of skill from both these warrior women! A cat fight with serious tooth and claw involve and a few whips and lassos, toss in some blades and juggernaut strength and we have ourselves a battle maiden fan service! A bit of mature scenes of blood and violence is at hand and it served it just right. It wouldn't be a very provocative fight without such shows; basically, this isn't your animated series of Batman and the JLA.
The Superman/Supergirl v.s. Darkseid scene was also something to gawk at. While Superman pretty much got the tar beat out of him, Supergirl stood up to the plate and gave Darkseid a beating for a few minutes. Again a rather whimsical way of exploiting what this gal COULD do in the battlefield against a powerhouse(and a rather mundane fighter; mr. OMEGA BEAMS) by the artist's hand! And it really showed a good display of just how dangerous Darkseid is even with two whose strength and abilities are akin to one another! Let me blatantly point out that this fight scene served more justice than the graphic novel!
A lack luster in contrast. |
At any given rate, while still adhering to the story and updating the fight scenes, this movie did a stellar job. I recommend it; at least rent it for a frugal price. I enjoyed both book and movie honestly, but I have my qualms about one and the other as well as my liking. But what both don't lack is...
Wonderful. |
S'about it.
