Marvel Legends BAF: Odin

Captain Marvel, Sentry, Iron Fist, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, Thor

2015 started out with a bunch of BAFs lined up and Odin is the first that grazes my collection. Technically, this wave consists of two BAFs: Odin and King Thor; truthfully, I'm not in the mood to have two Iron Fists, Hawkeye, and Thor just to make King Thor. I might've missed Machine Man in the process, but I'm not complaining. For anyone who is unfamiliar with Odin, Marvel depicts him as the old lore does: The father of Odin and all the gods of Norse Mythology. In the movie universe, he is the king of the advance ancient race of aliens. This figure however is based off the comic book version(more or less since Odin changed forms more than once throughout the decades in comic book). So, what does the Allfather bring to the table for us collectors? Well, let's find out.

Well one thing is certain, Hasbro managed to implement an important detail: Odin is missing one eye. The picture I got makes him look like he is in a shy pose; my one gripe about the face is that the way his eye is positioned, it makes it hard to get him to really look a certain way without it looking awkward like this picture. Regardless, it's a good face sculpt. Love the helmet, the horns, even the beard has some slight details in terms of paint. Though it's hard to get articulation out of his head with the man beard. His helmet, though decently sculpted, could still use some better paint details; or maybe some regal colors like gold. Other than that, I say it looks like Odin regardless if Odin changed looks several times in his comic book life(I'm more than willing to believe that there is a bit of Anthony Hopkins in this Odin since everything in Marvel has to abide by the cinematic universe these days).

Groot was the last BAF I got so let's compare the two. Size wise, Groot gets the award. Though Odin isn't small by any means. Gone are the days of small BAFs indeed and I'm really happy that Hasbro is really getting a good flow with BAFs these days.

He has a new body sculpt( I believe) and for the most part he is well done. The wash on his paint detail could've been a bit more on the giving side, but hey, Hasbro is Hasbro. There is something about the way he is made that makes him look like just a normal warrior which undermines the idea of Odin being the KING of Norse Gods; but again, perhaps Odin had an armor like this some time in the past.

Odin has one accessory, which is his spear. I'm sure it has some kind of name but I am not bothering with it right now; I think it's Odin Spear honestly. Well, it's not bad looking; looks bland at some angles, but it does mirror the color and wash of his helmet; again my gripe about it is that it should have been a bit more regal colored. Then there's the axe(again it has a name) which belongs to King Thor. Though I didn't want to simply store the weapon so I decided to give it to Odin just to imply that he is ready for all out battle. Not a bad looking weapon, though it dwarfs in comparison to the presence of Odin's spear and the overall ambiance Odin has.

Odin actually has a decent articulation; in fact he falls a bit more in the expected form of movement range! Though his clothing, the stiff cape and all hinders a lot of movement. I already mentioned the beard and how his head has the funny eye going on so that crosses out certain poses. Though generally, one doesn't need to have a lot of fancy poses for Odin. It's not like he is the nimble, agile, and even hand to hand kind of character.

That is all the pose one really needs for Odin most of the time. That and probably beating up both Thor and Loki for constantly arguing.

In conclusion, Odin isn't a bad BAF at all. He is above mediocre and is different. Honestly, it's really his set, the figures that came with him that made him worth it. Figures like Scarlet Witch, Iron Fist, and Captain Marvel is what made him stand out to me. I have no desire to finish King Thor so again, I'll be missing out on Machine Man but who cares? For anyone looking to have Thor be side by side with his father, this wave is a must! Other than that... can't wait for the next wave! 

ML Odin: Hawkeye

It's Hawkeye! And he uses a purple bow! How discreet! So Clint Barton needs no introduction, but this figure might. Part of the Odin Wave I just recently collected, let's go ahead and put him on the mark and see if he is worthy of the bow and purple boots.

I'll probably keep saying it redundantly but, I love the art on the side of the box. I wonder if this artist will be doing comic book covers.

This Hawkeye is far and away from the original Hawkeye costume; okay so not that far away since the addition of the 'purple' metal arm is really what distinguishes it from the original one. Wish I had the Toybiz version though. So he is another older variant from the Rocket Raccoon comic book version wave; the Marvel Now Hawkeye to be specific. Though for some reason Hasbro did not come through with that so here we are now in this Odin Wave Hawkeye. I've never been a big fan of Hawkeye so, this figure already started off in the mediocre list for me. Having this figure up close, it's nicely painted, missing some details and of course the rehashed bow and arrow form the previous Hawkeye does nothing for me(I'll scrutinize in a bit). Though it is obviously Hawkeye so not much to really say.

Hawkeye comes with the biggest piece of Odin and of course his standard bow and quiver full of arrows! Though none of the arrows(like the modern Hawkeye 'aka' Marvel NOW) can be pulled out and ... he doesn't come with one that can be posed. The whole bow is plastic so there is no way to 'pull' the string to make it a convincing "I'm about to shoot you with my arrow" action pose. From my understanding, this was the third Hawkeye with the same accessory and they have yet to update it.

Nothing spectacular and new about his articulation since he has the same mold as 85% of the figure I own from the recent Hasbro waves. Not a bad mold; Hasbro is doing the safe side with the mold and honestly, as long as they keep giving good characters, why not? But eventually the well will dry up and it's time for them to really find a new source for the water.

Seriously, without his arrow and a bit more pliable 'string' then it's a miss of the bullseye for this archer in purple!

So if you are trying to build Odin, Hawkeye is a must. If you are trying to build BOTH King Thor and Odin, then you have to get Hawkeye and a couple of other figures twice which is kind of a downer. If you are a Hawkeye fan, he is a must and not to mention, this costume is what Bullseye wore when he was posing as Hawkeye during the Dark Reign saga. So there are perks in terms of collectivity with this figure. Though in my honest opinion, he falls short more than a few targets for me to say I'm elated to have this guy. His BAF piece is what made him worth it to me. 

Marvel Legends BAF: Rocket Raccoon

Rocket Racoon Series: Black Panther, Hawkeye, Wrecker, Jean Grey, Scarlet Spider

So a question... Who is the BAF in this picture? I mean, it does say "Rocket Raccoon" but, it seems that Wrecker is the most fitting one of the bunch! Since the return of Marvel Legends under Hasbro, the figure to be built has lost a tremendous amount of 'stature'. Now don't get me wrong, Terrax was a great BAF in my opinion, but with waves like Hit Monkey and now Rocket Raccoon? Suffice it to say, I think we are going for the smaller characters to be built. That and I'm not going into the 'drama' of Marvel Legends ending only to adhere to Movie releases for their BAFs; though Jubilee? Hm. But anyways, moving on to this little guy over here!

Now Terrax isn't the biggest of the BAFs that Hasbro and Toybiz has made but he looks gargantuan compared to Rocket Raccoon. Simply put, the ravenous space furball is barely 3 inches, I believe! This picture right here should really drive that point across. Now I am probably guestimating in regards to actual size, but hey! I'm close I would surmise!

I didn't know what to expect in regards to articulation. I had a feeling it would be able to at least move considering how small he is, but I knew there were going to be some downers. I wasn't far from the truth since the little guy DOES have the  shoulder, elbow, bicep swivel, wrist swivel, head moves, tail moves, and the mouth moves. Now you don't get too many lip moving Marvel Legend BAFs these days, but the norm is that the legs does move! Rocket Raccoon's legs stays stagnant. In fact, standing this bad boy up is impossible with the use of his tail!

But who is Rocket Raccoon without a gun that has a ... rocket in it? That's correct! He does have an accessory in the form of a gun! His tiny hands are molded so that he can be ambidextrous! And he is also given the perk of holding this gun with both hands. Gives him a few more postures to adhere to, I suppose. Though I would prefer if they at least gave him two guns so that dual wielding would make him a bit more dangerous looking. I don't know too much about this guy nor am I familiar with his trademark guns(if any), though I would assume battling up in space, two guns would be a bit prudent in certain scenarios. Just guessing again.

At the end of the day, I'm not going to flat out say that I am 100% pleased with this guy, but hasbro didn't let me down completely. The figures that came with him is what matter in the end, I suppose. Though if Hasbro is ending the famous BAF on the Marvel Legends line so that they can concur with the movie, I would think bigger and badder characters would be a bit more on the smart side. Still missing the waves of Apocalypse, Sentinel(going to finish, ONE DAY), and Giant Man who are colossal in size! Oh well. Shouldn't complain, right?

or should I complain? Can't even see him in this mixture of Marvel Heroes! Oh and speaking of which, one of the rare 'Hero' BAF that I own. Rulk being the other one.

Elder Scrolls V: "Symbiote" Daedra/Dark Elf

I ordered this little guy a while back and well here he is! For those who are familiar with the Elder Scrolls series, this is the newest version of the Daedra Armor from Skyrim. Adorning the said armor is a dark elf and he is also prudent in regards to the matching weaponry, shield and sword and all! Made by a company simply named "Symbiote Studios".

 

At first glimpse of this merchandise a while back, I thought it was another one of those "POP" mini things. While similar, it's two different breed altogether. Most POPs I have come across don't have these removable accessories like this certain Dark Elf. A cool little addition to say the least. To be more precise, it actually falls in similarities with Marvel's 'Mini Muggs' as one of my pictures will astutely show.

Suffice to say, with how he looks, keeping the helmet on is a more aesthetic and more recognizable form. Though I wish the helmet would stay on a bit more fervently than it does, but seeing how the material is rubbery, it tends to 'slip' a bit if not put on a certain way; though a minor complaint really. The eyes align with the helmet holes and it stays on decently enough.

Comparing it to the recent 'Micro Muggs' for the Iron Man 3 lineage, it does have a size on him(and I picked the biggest contrasting Iron Man armor to put next to the Daedra).

This is the Avengers Mini Muggs next to him and again, the more obvious 'distant' cousin.

And here we are right next to the original Mighty Muggs! To point out the obvious, the original Muggs do have a size advantage to Symbiote Studio's Daedra Armored Elf product. Though it's in the same price, believe it or not. But again, I have no qualms with it. It's a good mini addition.

Where is Mr. Daedra???

On a closing note, this rather jovial looking thing is worth the price I think. The details aren't stellar but the likeness it has to what it is molded after does justice. It's a good little addition on my 'entertainment center'. 

"This Movie"

It's pretty clear to the whole entire genre that this movie was probably the biggest hit. The Avengers hit certain points that would perhaps pave the road for MANY comic book movies along the way. suffice to say, it's no wonder it's my #1 movie. With the right cast (both fiction and actor wise), the proper amount of story, some easter eggs for comic book lovers, and of course the extraordinary action along with the somewhat cheesy but whimsical humor, this movie will be hard to tackle.

Avengers Appreciation!

So this is my fourth (well fifth, but the other one I made is for a special someone that will never go public) Music Video that deals with the newly Blu Ray released Phenomenon, Marvel's The Avengers. I can't exactly describe just how much the movie is the pinnacle of Super Hero/es Movie. It is (In My humble Opinion) The best Comic Book movie by date.

Now it is by its right fallible, but no movie can be perfect, but with a legendary Team Icon put into the big screen, an exhilarating casts (both well known and not so much), a good spin of comedy, action, and drama... Special Effects that adheres to the capability of what Marvelous things the Super Heroes can do.... well it only spells a mixture of what we call 'Spectacular' and/or 'Amazing'.

So... I enjoyed making this Music Video! I hope my illusive fans will concur with the work I have put into it!!! (Truthfully, it wasn't that tedious, just intricate at times).

The Avengers Movie Breaks Records!

So this is kind of a late post, but needless to say I watched Avengers about a week and a half ago. My verdict? Do I need to say anything?! The movie was just damn awesome! Everything about it was just too good to be put into the big screen. I'm probably going to watch it again and might make a review about it. But I do have to say that the damn movie broke a lot of records! As rightfully as it should!

There are a few little complaints here and there. One of the more gripes I heard that it seems to be 'Iron Man and the Avengers' kind of deal. Well, there are some truth to that, but Come on? Who is the best damn actor there?! And who is one of the most badass in the team?! Okay so maybe I'm being biased... but they all had their spotlight. Hulk is the funny one. Black Widow is the eye Candy. Hawkeye is probably the coolest movie rendition of the comic book! Thor and Cap? They were still cool but they didn't stick out. I'm just freaking glad they didn't put Wasp and Giant Man.

And Thanos?! Really?! Boo ya! And here's another kicker that is awesome in this movie:

A little bit of a 'D.I.D' who isn't distressed at all and far from being a Damsel. But hott anyways! Welps! that's a bit of my ranting. Until next time!

Nuff said. Tomorrow at Midnight, the movie I have been waiting for shall arrive. I have HIGH expectations for it, and I do not think it will be anything like Spider-Man 3. It will be Marvelous to say the least!

Can't wait!
