ML Rhino BAF: Scarlet Spider

You know what is hilarious? I've had this figure for a long time now. A few months, more or less. It's only now that I finished his photoshoot and decided it is time to review him. How can't I? He is part of the 2015 line up. So, I won't be adding too much on his history, but he is a clone. This was Ben Reilly's first Spider-Man costume before his much hated Spider-Man run. SO.... let's just get right on the figure.

This was 2015's box and it is something we have seen a ton of times before. As one can see, he comes with more than a few variations for his hands. Not too bad. Oh and two variant heads for Rhino.

As a Scarlet Spider, he is dominantly red minus the few accessories and the bright blue hoodie that he wears. This was a pretty liked costume and honestly, it's not that bad. Not my favorite, but it offers some variation to the well used and classic Spider-Man costume. I believe as a mold, this one is recycled, but I believe the torso(the hoodie) is brand new. It's not bad at all. It has enough details on the wrinkles, he comes with the pouches on his leg, the web shooters, the belt... it's got enough flare to him and it is costume accurate.

Three pair of hands: open/wall crawling, fists, and web shooting hands. Not too bad. Then Rhino has two heads to choose from. I am not going to finish Rhino for a lot of reasons. I might not list it in this; I might just do a 'why I did not finish this BAF' post.

Reilly retains the standard articulation for a Spider-Man figure with this mold. Again Hasbro has to one day correct the legs; Spider-related characters like these guys HAVE to be able to do the splits! Doing so will allow for some much appreciated dynamic poses.

The spare hands definitely adds to the fun factor as a figure; again one has to depend on custom webbing since Hasbro has yet to grace us with one.

As they should, these two stand well side by side. Again, "pizza" Spidey shares a lot of Scarlet Spidey's body and as comic book clones, they SHOULD stand side by side.

And of course, the OTHER Scarlet Spider in my collection. I wish the Kaine Scarlet Spider was a bit more articulated and was like the new Scarlet Spider. I really like the Kaine Spider better and he has more to offer as a character (in my opinion) and aesthetically to me. Since Kaine came from a much older BAF in Hasbro's revival of Marvel Legends, certain things are out dated. Surely highlights this new figure even more.

I'm sad. I'm a clone.
In conclusion, this is actually a pretty decent figure. I got him for the purpose of the figure and not because of the BAF completion. He is a pretty well liked figure so we were bound to get him. Still, I have this inkling that I am not even close to done with the introduction of my Spider-Men! 2016 is starting off right in collecting!

Marvel Legend: "Scarlet Spider" (Rocket Raccoon BAF)

"ALL the Power. NONE of the Responsibility."
Spider-Man has had a plethora of duds over the years he has crawled on walls. Classic and Black... Iron and 'Armored' ... Big Time and Future ... He has had a lot of people crawl into his skin as well ... from O'Hara to Miles ... From Reilly to 'Ms. Parker' ... But now his 'sinister' clone has slung a new web in the name of 'Scarlet Spider'.

While controversy exists within the new realm of Marvel Legends of Hasbro, one of them is of course the dwarf sized BAFs coming out lately like Rocket Raccoon, all in all however, there are some good figures coming out. Not all of them, but figures like the new Scarlet Spider is indeed something I am enamored by. Now while this is just a mere repaint of two other Spider-Man that has come out(Big Time Spidey and Future foundation Spidey from the Armon Zola BAF wave), I am a big fan of the color combo. Yes, Red and Black. Though there are some few gripes with this figure like perhaps that the one 'thwip' hand hinders quite a bit of posing capabilities. Don't get me wrong, the classic Spidey pose is indeed nostalgic and fitting, however ... one thing to "point" out with this said hand aside from it being permanently shooting out imaginary webs...

Why is this hand so BIG!? And it's not the mere focal point of the camera that does the 'trick', it's just not proportioned correctly. Interchangeable hands would've came in handy or perhaps adhere to what Toybiz did with their Marvel Legends and give them articulated fingers! It sure deters this giant hand debacle that they face with a lot of their toys.

There's only really so much one can really do with one hand 'stuck' in the thwipping action. It really wasn't the best choice ESPECIALLY since this is the third repaint of this figure. The mold does wonders for posing, but jeez, can they at least add variations to the said hands? Also, the new Scarlet Spider has 'a claw in each arm that extends out of his wrist(The Other storyline which Kaine kept and Parker didn't), sadly they didn't add it in this figure. For the sake of color scheme and how I like Kaine, I 'had' to get him, but for those who are just indifferent about him, he doesn't have a whole lot of incentive. Hell, to complete Rocket Raccoon, one doesn't even need this guy. He comes with no part.

Web of Spider-Men
But as an addition to the Spider-Man gallery, he is pretty cool. Again, along with Iron Spider and Black Spider-Man, this is one of my favorite adaptation of the Wall Crawler. I'm sure not a whole hell of a lot of people can concur with that though. Still, glad to have him, all in all!

Marvel Legends BAF: Rocket Raccoon

Rocket Racoon Series: Black Panther, Hawkeye, Wrecker, Jean Grey, Scarlet Spider
So a question... Who is the BAF in this picture? I mean, it does say "Rocket Raccoon" but, it seems that Wrecker is the most fitting one of the bunch! Since the return of Marvel Legends under Hasbro, the figure to be built has lost a tremendous amount of 'stature'. Now don't get me wrong, Terrax was a great BAF in my opinion, but with waves like Hit Monkey and now Rocket Raccoon? Suffice it to say, I think we are going for the smaller characters to be built. That and I'm not going into the 'drama' of Marvel Legends ending only to adhere to Movie releases for their BAFs; though Jubilee? Hm. But anyways, moving on to this little guy over here!

Now Terrax isn't the biggest of the BAFs that Hasbro and Toybiz has made but he looks gargantuan compared to Rocket Raccoon. Simply put, the ravenous space furball is barely 3 inches, I believe! This picture right here should really drive that point across. Now I am probably guestimating in regards to actual size, but hey! I'm close I would surmise!

I didn't know what to expect in regards to articulation. I had a feeling it would be able to at least move considering how small he is, but I knew there were going to be some downers. I wasn't far from the truth since the little guy DOES have the  shoulder, elbow, bicep swivel, wrist swivel, head moves, tail moves, and the mouth moves. Now you don't get too many lip moving Marvel Legend BAFs these days, but the norm is that the legs does move! Rocket Raccoon's legs stays stagnant. In fact, standing this bad boy up is impossible with the use of his tail!

But who is Rocket Raccoon without a gun that has a ... rocket in it? That's correct! He does have an accessory in the form of a gun! His tiny hands are molded so that he can be ambidextrous! And he is also given the perk of holding this gun with both hands. Gives him a few more postures to adhere to, I suppose. Though I would prefer if they at least gave him two guns so that dual wielding would make him a bit more dangerous looking. I don't know too much about this guy nor am I familiar with his trademark guns(if any), though I would assume battling up in space, two guns would be a bit prudent in certain scenarios. Just guessing again.

At the end of the day, I'm not going to flat out say that I am 100% pleased with this guy, but hasbro didn't let me down completely. The figures that came with him is what matter in the end, I suppose. Though if Hasbro is ending the famous BAF on the Marvel Legends line so that they can concur with the movie, I would think bigger and badder characters would be a bit more on the smart side. Still missing the waves of Apocalypse, Sentinel(going to finish, ONE DAY), and Giant Man who are colossal in size! Oh well. Shouldn't complain, right?

or should I complain? Can't even see him in this mixture of Marvel Heroes! Oh and speaking of which, one of the rare 'Hero' BAF that I own. Rulk being the other one.

Some Signatures.

Scarlet Spider N7 Rage
Spider-Woman's N7 Rage
Batman, X-Force Domino and Wolverine N7 Rage
X-23 N7 Rage

Some of the signature work a long time Forum companion did for me. Her work is exhilarating to say the least! I mean I made my own signature not too long ago (Somebody That I know xD) which I was proud of but to have the caliber of art these four sig put into them... well... I don't think that is feasible with so much things in my department, so to speak! But regardless, please check out her work! She is fantastic at what she does!

Spidey's Duds!

Well, as I have mentioned, it is Spidey Month (while July lasts anyways). And let me just ramble briefly about some of my favorite suits that Spidey wore in his decades of crime fighting. Be aware that I will not go in great detail with any of them and maybe in the future I will blog about them with more depth. As of right now, let's just muse at their aesthetics, shall we?

Black Suit

Iron Spider

Future Foundation

Ben Reilly Spider-Man.

And one that I have blogged about already: Scarlet Spider 2012 (Kaine)

Again, this is just a minor words in regards to Spidey's fashion statement throughout the years. Sadly, his original one isn't exactly the coolest thing ever, but it serves as nostalgia. But he is in DIRE need of a new suit!!! One of these would suffice (The Iron Spider!).

Scarlet Spider 2012

An Illusive Spider working in the shade of blood red.

July is Spidey Month for obvious reasons. It's been a while since I have actually been this super excited for Spider-Man since the whole 'One More Day' tirade that pretty much ruined everything for me in the Spider-Man mythos. Though I can even sullenly admit that even to this day, I myself haven't completely found myself caught back in the webs of Spider-Man's story. However once in a while I'll take a glance at what is going on (though lost in translation) in the Web-Head's world. Not too long ago I found myself running across the 'New Scarlet Spider' and well... I was impressed with how he looks. The whole Red and Black attire more than suffice for a more darker and a bit more intimidating Spidey!

*Note* I will not go into it right now but! Scarlet Spider was also the name of Spidey's clone, Ben Reilly who donned another Spidey thread that had the color scheme of the original Spider-Man duds but a bit more... I don't know? It wasn't a bad thread at all, but it's not my favorite outfit. As seen in the left here! Heck even the Iron Spider armor (that Tony Stark provided) was even plastered as 'Scarlet Spider' when 'they' joined the Avengers Initiative. As abhorrent as this sounds, it wasn't even Ben, Kaine, or Peter that donned it(that is after Parker dissuades himself to join Cap's side in the Civil war!). As seen to the right!

My New favorite Spidey outfit!
I don't know the exact story line nor can I say if I will really delve into it with detail or have the energy and time to do so. I will say that if the art proves tantalizing (and it does) then I think when it's in cheap price I'll pick it up perhaps. Not that my myriad of activities doesn't keep me busy enough! However, designing the new Spidey the way they did had an efficacious result. Obviously! I'm blogging about it!

"Does whatever a Spider Can't."

Anyways! This concludes my little rant about another corner of the Marvel Universe. And yes, doesn't the new Scarlet duds look absolutely Amazing in the game?!
