DC Universe Trigon BAF: Cheetah

Yes, you read right. My VERY firs DC Universe review on one of their BAF pieces! And none other of course than the femme fatale feline rival of Wonder Woman herself, Cheetah!!!! I have to say, I have always ALWAYS wanted to complete a set from Mattel's DC Universe line just to see where they stand in regards to Toybiz/Hasbro's Marvel Legends BAF. Well, this figure would be the make it or break it deal for me to have the full incentive to truly build-a-figure. So how does she fare and is she convincing? Let's just move on.

Yes the box is your classic box base for the back then the transparent window to show case the said figure. Of course a bio for the character and it has the assortment and pieces for this wave pictured in the back with the figure to be built very prominent in the corner. Nothing much to say about the box or the 'accessories' for that matter. Of course it being a BAF series it comes with the leg of Trigon and a nostalgia art pin of Cheetah from way back when.

Okay so for the figure itself, I have to say it's not terrible. It's not great. The sculpt is rather decent especially since I have to look at it from the lens that it is an older figure. She has an athletic and almost skinny frame with a 'tall' head. Her hands are tiny too so that is kind of off-putting. In the paint department she isn't bad… shadings exist and the spots makes her look like a cheetah. Again not terrible, but not great.

Alright let's talk about the articulation. This is where she goes downhill from here. Articulation on her is  appallingly bad. Better than the 1995 toy biz toys I used to play with, but still! It's really quite hard to get her to great dynamic poses and since her tail lacks better movement, it's even harder to have a convincing pose. Her hair makes it impossible for her head to have rotations so there are no great action slashing to go on.

I managed one or two poses that looked decent for a shot. But to say one or two literally means one to two that I deem worthy to even put up. And I tried a bit harder to truly get her into a better attack pose and I failed… perhaps I'm not that great with posing her or something… Don't know.

As of right now, Lady Deathstrike is probably my least favorite female figure but putting her next to Cheetah makes her leaps and bounds better! So suffice to say, it's more than obvious who I favor out of these two action figures with all that said!

I'll even put it next to my most hated Marvel Legend of the moment: Klaw. I have ridiculed Klaw more than once but there is something about him that is worth mentioning. His articulation is actually quite good! When a figure has at least that, it's something redeeming! I mean I did have lots of fun posing him getting his butt kicked by a myriad of my other toys! So with that said, is Cheetah a good testament for my Mattel DC universe BAF hunt for Trigon? Not really. Sculpt is mediocre and almost failing(I heard that this mold has been reused FAR too many times too), paint job decent, and then terrible articulation? I don't know if that is a good sign; but I do want to say the I gave DC's BAF line a try before completely ridiculing them. But as for right now(at this moment), DC shouldn't put their bets on their action figure lines since Marvel is still dominating that department!

ML Thanos BAF: Hellcat

Hasbro has been giving us some obscure characters as of late and good for it. With the Thanos wave being bombarded with three overused characters, some none mainstream comic book characters would do nice and so here we are with Hellcat! Let's check her out then, shall we?

She is the other 'variant' of Spider-Woman.

One of the things that makes Hellcat stick out is the fact that she is very vibrant! The mixture of bright yellow and dark blue is just a nice combo in terms of contrast, then pair that in with her orange hair(that is one of the highlights of this figure for me), and we have ourselves colors that bounce and complement off each other! Her mask design had always been one of the things that I like as well with the pale blue color on the 'cheeks' then the drawn eyebrows. There are some paint details here and there which is rare for Hasbro. The mold of the figure itself is a mixture of a few familiar figures from the past such as the sash, the hands, the young teenage girl body mold, and then the off handed Moonstone hip on the small frame. Not too bad, but at times she does look a bit odd.

Hellcat comes with Thanos' head and left arm as well as some twin sticks, which from what little I know about Hellcat, she doesn't really use these sticks. She can't hold them well on one hand either which is a shame. Luckily you can combine these two sticks into one, which decrease their fun factor by half(literally).

Her articulation is standard for what her body mold consists of however one of the main things that set her aside from the rest of the female figures as of late is the fact that it's truly difficult to have head movement because of that nice long orange hair! Believe it or not, I also gained some a minor damage on her hair by straining it too much and it completely falling off. Nothing super glue can't fix but, a bit irritating since it's the second figure in the wave I have had some problems with. Posing is still more than possible for the most part, just certain things will be hindered greatly.

Hellcat defending herself against DC's notorious Cheetah for the right of feline titles. Though I would say the two have to compete with a few more on both realms. Also, I believe Tigra vs Cheetah would be more appropriate(one of the forms of Hellcat does turn into Tigra herself).

Hellcat being a variant of Spider-Woman, and having the same BAF piece, she isn't really a must for anyone not a fan of this character. I'm not a fan of her per say, but I am a sucker for female figures. I do have more gripes about this figure than not so I probably can say she is mediocre. Though she is fun to have in the roster since she is so obscure. Being a testament that Hasbro still gives the comic book line some love, may she be a reminder that Comic Book is the root of Marvel and NOT the cinematic universe! Though we all know who makes the dollar signs(sadly). 

Cinematic Wonder Woman

It's no secret that I am a Wonder Woman fan for many reasons. Finding out that she was going to make an appearance in Batman vs Superman gave me more reason to be excited for the movie. I mean, she just looks amazing! The way the costume is done goes well as a more 'greek/roman' ensemble but still going along the lines with the classic look and at the same time making it adequate for the modern look! And while there were many ambivalence and disdain with Gal Gadot being casted as Diana, I do have to say for someone who has only seen bits and pieces off her from the movie (haven't watched it yet), I have to say that the still images do look enticing! And luckily we just don't have to witness her in the small screen time she got in BvsS! WE have some inside look on her solo movie! Here you ago! From CW! Both pics I have has the whole 'look over to my left shoulder' going on with Wonder Woman.

So hate to say it, there's a bit of a Captain America feel to it. Now I know Wonder Woman has been around longer than Cap, but Captain America's movie: First Avenger has been the one that entered main stream for a while (Marvel's got the cinematic universe on the roll, in my opinion). But it does have potential! I mean people think so with the fan arts going out already!

So perhaps it's too soon to be elated for this movie, but again, I am a Wonder Woman fan here! There is potential in this for sure! Some really good ways to make Wonder Woman be the forefront super heroine of the cinematic universe since Marvel is lacking that. She is after all the first Super Heroine to pave the way for others .... even if her history is tangled up with perversion. Speaking of, I wonder if they will pay homage to that? 

I highly doubt it.... because... yeah.

How about her bondage scenes in the Silver age? They were less... perverted, right?

And how about this golden piece right here? This was one of the most amazing pics I have seen when I was young. It introduced me to cleave gags! Wonder Woman is also due for a reboot for my Damsel of the Month.

Okay, it was about her cinematic solo movie! It turned into a bondage tangent. But then again, it is my blog so it is was expected.
