WONDER WOMAN Movie Review! How Good is the New DC Film? (First Half Spoi...

I didn't watch the entire thing but one of the major things that I really think the "DECU" is having a hard time with is isolation. They focused SO MUCH time with SO MANY characters at the same time and with this movie, from what I have heard, read about, etc, the focus on one person. ON ONE major JL character. And it seems to have a wonderful affect.

I will watch this movie.

Wonder Woman could very well be DCEU's saving grace.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer #2 (2017)

I wonder how they are going to pull off Ego(the being that was supposed to be a LIVING planet). Still, I'm terribly excited for this movie.

Then again, this year has a lot of great line ups that I will go see:

Wonder Woman.
Power Rangers.
Beauty and the Beast.
Kong Skull Island.
Starting to warm up to Spider-Man: Homecoming.

and this.

Why DCU definitely needs this: WONDER WOMAN - Official Trailer [HD]

DC has had a rough few kickoffs with their Cinematic Universe. Batman Vs Superman led the universe, and Suicide Squad followed suit. Now, I'm going to be the first to say that I enjoyed the first two installments of the DCU enough. Suicide Squad more than Batman vs Superman. I had a great time seeing characters like Harley Quinn and enjoyed Affleck's take on Batman (better than Bale for me). I liked how they managed to catch some of the aspects of these characters that made these characters popular (Harley's crazy but off the wall jokes that often pertained to killing someone and Batman's angsty moment when he was at the lowest). The problem with those movies is that they are FAR too crowded. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a movie that I like but abhor for being too crowded also falls into that same curse. A comic book movie's BEST chemistry, trait, etc, could be forgotten because of underdeveloped characters and rushed fanservice antics. Also, both movies seem to lean on the idea that they are setups for other movies and for a Cinematic Universe that is barely learning how to stand, it's already starting to jog--SPRINT to the crossover arena.

They are trying fervently to do what Marvel Cinematic Universe had accomplished(and is accomplishing). That is all well and good but DC has to build its lore first. While DC has a pretty strong standing mainstream presence where both casual and diehard fans can say who is Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, DC needs to remember that they STILL need to build a universe where all fans are on the same page when it comes to knowing what is the general backbone of the Cinematic Universe: where the characters stand, what is, and what isn't. Just like Marvel has done over the years.

"Listen to our stories! Seriously! Listen to all of us at once!"

DC didn't do that. They jumped right in and everything about the first two movies of the DCU are crossovers and heavily dependent on fan knowledge--if not, backstories are just crammed into this tiny little space that we as viewers barely got to acknowledge the existence of the lore. Casual and movie fans aren't allowed to get attached to these characters because there are SO many plots, characters, and lore to catch up with. I mean let's just use Henry Cavill as a good example; his Superman is BARELY taking off. From what I have heard, fans are split in half about how he portrays his Superman. Honestly, I think he did well with Man of Steel and I think with one more movie, he might've made his mark but the sequel... we get BvsS; it was supposed to be Man of Steel 2 with some Batman involved but when more and more characters are added in, it became just BvsS and Superman got lost in Batman, Wonder Woman, the messy Lex, and every other set up that DCU is trying to pull.

"Bringing sexy back with a phallic symbol behind my back!"
DC needs to get back to building ONE character. With that said, what better character than someone who is by far something Marvel hasn't been able to compete with: a "Super" woman, a heroine, sexy but strong, and alluring as she is intimidating. Who better than Wonder Woman herself? Of course there is a Captain America feel to this movie, but origin story is a must. Building a character just BY HERSELF/HIMSELF is key to build a bigger world. This is what DCU needs! And if Wonder Woman is done right, this might very well be DC's opening to a better shape; I doubt they'll catch up to what Marvel has done, but hey, it can be better for DC!

I have hope~!

Playarts Kai: Wonder Woman (Dawn of Justice)

Well, 2016 is a good year for imports for me! A second Playarts Kai and this time in the form of Wonder Woman in her cinematic appearance in Dawn of Justice! I had some doubt when Gal Gadot took the lasso and bracelet for the role, but I started really warming up when I saw images of her in the costume; then seeing her in action was definitely the seller. Dawn of Justice is not your Civil War caliber (DC is about 52% dislikes and 48% likes; I made that number up but it makes sense, right? 52? New 52. Get it?), but it still had some good things. Wonder Woman was definitely the 'good thing' for me. So how does her PAK version fare?

The box is a standard PAK box, though mine came in damaged, which was a bit of a bummer but nothing to gripe over.

The number "4", which we got Batman, Armored Batman, and Superman before her. I do hope there isn't a number 5 since the only other choices are "Doomsday(ABOMINATION)" and Lex Luthor. God no!

PAK's famous open book/window box case. At first, I thought it was missing it(thus the missing figure), which struck me odd. It wasn't until Wonder Woman was out of the box that this certain feature carried over to their Dawn of Justice figures. There is, of course, a bio, which you can't necessarily read with the shot I took. Buy the figure if you want to read it so bad! (advertisement, much?)

I mentioned how I really like the Cinematic take on Wonder Woman's outfit. If there is one thing I have to say is that they tried to really get the sexy, exposed, and very flaunting side of Wonder Woman's outfit but still managed to make it make sense. It has a very 'warrior-greek-roman' like look to it--something that pays homage to 'where' Wonder Woman came from mythos wise. The colors are darker than her original outfit, but it is still recognizable. The paint job did well to duplicate that. Flesh tones are done well of course. Playarts Kai is usually really good with the finer details of color.

Now as for the mold, Diana's playarts kai version has a few glaring mishaps. First and foremost, you can probably see it now from her profile; the armpit area doesn't do a good job hiding joints... and while Playarts Kai isn't known to hide joints well(knee joints), they're not usually horrendous; though the work on Diana over here kind of shows a different work of art. It's not bad, but you can't do a whole lot of 'overly' dynamic poses with her arms up. It just looks odd. I'm not sure how the Variant Wonder Woman was able to hide her joints, but I get the feeling it's not as bad as this. Also, I'm going to pick on this since it is based on an actress visage of an iconic comic book heroine: she looks nothing like Gal Gadot. It's almost like PAK TRIED their best NOT to make her look like the beautiful Gal. She's not ugly, but still, to make her look like Gal would have been nice since I am fond of that actress. Overall, her body isn't overly sexy but it isn't brute-like. Wonder Woman has always been your typical sexy and appealing type, but I do think she has to have some 'masculine' features; masculine, but still retain some sort of feminine sexiness. The figure does a good job of doing that despite the mold flaws.

Accessory wise, I think she comes with a passable amount. The sword and shield is highly appreciated, the variations on her hands is okay--could have more, but can't complain too much. Then of course we have her insipid lasso. For a weapon that she is well known for (both as a receiver and the giver), this one lacks in fun factor. Also, I do wish they have her some face variations. Definiltey not one of PAK's finest moments with Wonder Woman. Oh, we can't forget about the standard PAK stand, which I'm starting to slightly warm up to. If I get more PAKs, I might get used to this thing.

And as I said, The Golden Lasso of Truth is honestly a boring addition to Wonder Woman's Playarts Kai version. It doesn't do anything but just 'sit' there. With the bendy wire that can be applied to some of the figures these days (like Playarts Kai Supergirl's cape), one could definitely make an adequate Lasso for Wonder Woman and make her fun factor hike up. Unfortuantely, no. Still, glad she has it even if it's not exactly something that can be used. Also, while it's not an accessory of the figure, the bracelets are included with great details! Anoter Wonder Woman signature item (both the lasso and the bracelet used to be a major bondage icon for Diana as well!).

The shield is amazing. It has a metallic look to it, which makes it look like actual metal. It has 'battle wear and tears' on it, which makes it look even more realistic. It is obviously greek-roman like; reminds me of Perseus' shield from Clash of the Titans for some reason. Oh, it's a pretty decent size and she holds it decently enough. It's not exactly a tight fit, but it suffices.

The sword is pretty awesome; nothing too special, but it does its job well. It's not exactly a blade with the most grandeur design and it's not PAK's doing. The blade was pretty ordinary looking based on what I saw in Dawn of Justice. I think they might have a story to it; maybe.

Now going right into her articulation, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman retains most of what Playarts Kai is known for. You can get her into some decent dynamic scenes that are going to be sufficient for someone who spends a lot of time fighting with her blade and martial arts. Though as I mentioned before, some angles make her look too much like a 'toy', and while she is that, imports try their best to hide the joints to give a more realistic look; unfortunately PAK didn't do a good job, or didn't do the job at all when it comes to Wonder Woman's upper body. Her hair does not have the much desired hair articulation that we have seen before, but they did go with a shorter haired Wonder Woman; again, they were trying not to make her look like Gal Gadot for some reason.

Despite those, you'll get some good actions shots. Her stand helps out a lot to give her the flying, jumping, and all those dynamic in the air scenes. Heck, you might even be able to get her in a sitting position to imply that she is driving her invisible jet. I didn't try that, honestly.

Couldn't resist! Here is Playarts Wonder Woman in a classic pose, courtesy of Playarts Kai variant Batman.

And here she is with a personal favorite Playarts Kai Variant of mine, Supergirl. As you can tell, Kara's red is way more pronounced than Diana's.

Despite her flaws, I am pleased with this figure. Again, she could look more like Gal, could have better invisible joints, and some face variants would have done the trick. Her lack of articulated Golden Lasso took some points down too since that is one of her most prominent signature weapon. Sadly, with both Fran and Wonder Woman lacking that 'flare' that we would expect from PAK (especially for that price point), I might be a bit more hesitant with upcoming releases. There are some good characters coming out, but again, I have to be careful. Though I'd give this figure a "B", so it's more than passable. If you are a Wonder Woman fan and want a cinematic figure of her, this might be the only one we have that is in a decent price range(go for the hot toys one if you want). As a Wonder Woman fan, I chose this over her Hot Toy form but I think I might give that one a try.

My July Spoils

So July was definiltey a pretty decent month. Well to be honest, it was more in line with my reading material than anything else(as if I have time for any of that). I did gain a few POPs here (Gwen, Harley, and Diana) in terms of figures and as the picture above shows, I gained another statue of Rin and then we have the MAIN attraction for July: Playarts KAI Fran! Having been reviewing a couple of Playarts pre Kai definitely winds me up for this figure! Excited beyond belief!

At any rate, I have my crosshairs for a couple of things like the Marvel Legends Spider-Man and X-Men; also, I have a couple of preorders making their way soon and THEN September is a big month for a gamer!

Keep a look out for those! Until then!

DC Cinematic Universe Comic-Con 2016

WONDER WOMAN

Well, I won't say much but I want them to get this right. If they manage to pull off a monumental movie in the name of Wonder Woman, that means DC has that over Marvel! So far, it looks promising. Doesn't look like there will be any bondage related homage though.

Suicide Squad(HARLEY QUINN)

Here's another one that DC has to pull off to make things even hotter for Marvel! If they get a movie based on villains to be a hit off, Marvel has some grounds to touch on because ... well it hasn't been done! Have high hopes for this one! Harley Quinn!

Justice League

Okay so.... I'm slightly interested. I like the ambiance outside of BvsS. Interesting. Still not sure about this, but we will see how Wonder Woman goes, shall we?

POP: (Batman vs Superman) Wonder Woman

Another POP and this time it's the Cinematic version of Wonder Woman herself (a movie I have yet to see by the way). So despite me not having any kind of reference for the costume's action dynamics aside from the trailers, I have to say, I do love this version of Wonder Woman. It pays homage to the classic Wonder Woman outfit but still make it very .... functional and theme wise it makes sense. Anyways, I should be getting the Playarts Kai of this but let me just talk about the POP version.

A normal box for POP. It shows the other figures of the wave and I have zero interest in any of them as of right now. If anything else, I will not be getting the Aquaman for sure because ... (excuse my francais) but FUCK Aquaman--Namor is better. Imperiux REX!

This is one of the rare times you will hear(read) me say this but the chibi ginormous head may be the first time that it takes away from a POP version of a character. I don't know why, but for some reason, Wonder Woman's head seems to really block some good visuals on the figure's aesthetics. Granted, it's not going to be super detailed, but it just seems really obstructing from certain angles.

But one thing I will say is that the red, blue, and gold seems to really be on par with the original colors. I guess I can't really admonish this figure because it is a POP so as a POP it is fairly good. I'll just have to talk about the aesthetics of her costume when I actually have a more 'humanoid' figure off her(PLAYARTS KAI).

Here she is next to the other Cinematic Versions of her DC mates. Out of the three, Harley is still my favorite; not because it is Harley but because of the POP itself.

There she is on my DC shelf.... something I need to do is find another shelf for these guys. So at any rate, not a bad POP. I do like the fact I have her. Hindsight, I might have gotten a different kind of 'mini' Wonder Woman figure had I known this POP version of her would not have been the best deal. Still, when I get these kinds of figures, I don't expect sexy or anything but Wonder Woman seems a bit... off. Get it if you are a fan of Wonder Woman and this version. Definitely get it if you are trying to complete the Cinematic version of the Trinity.

2016 Preorder Line ups

These are all my currently lined up Preorders. As you can see, I seem to want to build my DC collection which is pretty full at its ONE shelf. Yes, I have to expand pretty soon here. This isn't even including the Marvel Legends coming up that I will assemble. So, the lower half of the year will have PLENTY of reviewing to be done as well as gaming!

Cinematic Wonder Woman

It's no secret that I am a Wonder Woman fan for many reasons. Finding out that she was going to make an appearance in Batman vs Superman gave me more reason to be excited for the movie. I mean, she just looks amazing! The way the costume is done goes well as a more 'greek/roman' ensemble but still going along the lines with the classic look and at the same time making it adequate for the modern look! And while there were many ambivalence and disdain with Gal Gadot being casted as Diana, I do have to say for someone who has only seen bits and pieces off her from the movie (haven't watched it yet), I have to say that the still images do look enticing! And luckily we just don't have to witness her in the small screen time she got in BvsS! WE have some inside look on her solo movie! Here you ago! From CW! Both pics I have has the whole 'look over to my left shoulder' going on with Wonder Woman.

So hate to say it, there's a bit of a Captain America feel to it. Now I know Wonder Woman has been around longer than Cap, but Captain America's movie: First Avenger has been the one that entered main stream for a while (Marvel's got the cinematic universe on the roll, in my opinion). But it does have potential! I mean people think so with the fan arts going out already!

artgerm

spidey0318
So perhaps it's too soon to be elated for this movie, but again, I am a Wonder Woman fan here! There is potential in this for sure! Some really good ways to make Wonder Woman be the forefront super heroine of the cinematic universe since Marvel is lacking that. She is after all the first Super Heroine to pave the way for others .... even if her history is tangled up with perversion. Speaking of, I wonder if they will pay homage to that?

I highly doubt it.... because... yeah.

No?

How about her bondage scenes in the Silver age? They were less... perverted, right?

And how about this golden piece right here? This was one of the most amazing pics I have seen when I was young. It introduced me to cleave gags! Wonder Woman is also due for a reboot for my Damsel of the Month.

Some fifty shades?

Or at least have her truss up Cheetah! That would be fitting, right?

Okay, it was about her cinematic solo movie! It turned into a bondage tangent. But then again, it is my blog so it is was expected.
