Figma: Kiritsugu Emiya

Now, this is a figure I've had for a long time. Okay now that long, but it's a figure that has been looming to be reviewed for a while now! Kiritsugu Emiya is one of my favorite anime characters of all time! Having him in my collection as a Figma was Fate, zero exception! To review him is also a must so let's dive into it.

Figma still retains its signature box. Not much to really get into. Oh, there's a shameless promotion of Irisvel, as if she's really that interesting aside from an aesthetic point of view (figure wise, anyway. She's pretty cool as a character).

Out of the box, many might immediately get turned off by the obvious show of joints everywhere. For a character with a not-so-complicated design, his figure version should have a less conspicuous transition, right? Not so much. I'll be the first to admit that he isn't perfect aesthetically, but for what it is, it can work as long as he is given some dynamic poses. It is very easy to recognize Kiritsugu and that's what it matters the most when we are talking about aesthetics.

Coloring, there's not much to talk about really. He has a pretty somber palette of black, dark grey, grey, and brown. His skin tone is on point and that subtle red paint for his command seal is accurate so for that part I cannot complain. I will say that he falls a little flat on the details on his hair, but it's not something that deterred me.  Now Kiritsugu comes with 3 accurate faces, and we'll just jump on that immediately.

The first of the three is his smoking face. It comes with a tiny hole on his lip that you can put his cigarettes in. It's cool and all, but my main qualm is how freaking tiny those cigarettes are! I LOST ONE, mind you!

The next face is my least favorite. While it is Kiritsugu, it's his last moment 'out of character' face that only appears for about 4 seconds (akin to the latest Rin Tohsaka figure we have with those glasses).

Lastly, we have his angry/serious face that is all about Kiritsugu. Shame it is looking towards one direction so it is limited. Just saying it now, Kiritsugu's facial options are not great. Though the yare all consistent with the color of his eyes, the skin tone, and the emotion(for what they show) of Mr. Emiya from Fate Zero.

Now that we've covered the faces, it is time to just take an overall look at all his accessories. He has a decent amount, and it's nothing less from what we would expect from Figma, really. The standard hands, some guns, fire effects, those damn cigarettes, figure stand, and some unique 'hands in pocket' alternate arms that are adhering to the character's personality (which I'm glad they added!).

First, let's talk about his guns. I don't know all their names or anything, but I'll try. Of course, he has your standard 'mini-uzzi' handgun. I see him use it mostly as a 'distraction' tactic, and it did its job when dealing with mages more powerful than him. Pair that up with the special effect, and one can duplicate some memorable scenes with Kiritsugu.

Then this canon of a sniper gun! I don't remember the exact episode when he used this, but I'm glad they included this in his arsenal. I'm not going to pose him with it, but it's a nice touch.

Then there's this guy! This is his 'anti-magic' gun, I think. This is his most effective weapons against mages, and I'm glad they added this one; how can they not though? One can get some awesome badassery shots with this thing in hand! Also, one can recreate some awesome scenes! There is one more thing that is added with this gun that really gives this figure some poseability!

This gun has a small articulation and it can bend down. Kiritsugu, along with some standard hands(fist, open, relaxed, gun holding), also comes with 'load a bullet' hand, which, if paired up with this gun's articulation, can make some really dynamic scenes! Again, attention to the detail of the character! Great job, Figma!

And then we have the alternate arms! Position it right, and one can recreate some relaxed (or badass moments like I've already done) moments. Definitely, makes the idea of this long coat worth it! So as far as accessories go, I think they've done an awesome job putting some thought into Kiritsugu!

Now it's time to talk about Kiritsugu's articulation. It's good. He has what one expects out of Figma. With the added articulation in his coat, it can reimagine some dynamic scenes fron Fate Zero. Now I know Kiritsugu was a pretty athletic and nimble character; he had to be! He was hunting mages from all over the world! This figure can do most of what we saw Kiritsugu do in the anime. Don't expect him to do some Spider-Man stuff though! All I'm saying is, he can hold his guns well, his accessories that are unique to him worked, and I managed to get some really good shots with him! I had fun getting these pictures, that's for sure!

In conclusion, I think Kiritsugu lived up to the Figma idea. I got what I wanted and I was impressed, had fun, and satisfied. As a character I got really attached to, I think I can say that this is a pretty awesome representation of him. Fans of Fate Zero and Kiritsugu in general should have something to appreciate with this guy. Be warned, as most imports, he is a bit pricey. I was able to snag him when his price was 'decent' (with minor dings to the box). If one is willing to deal with the price range(s) and be okay with some REALLY tiny accessories, then it is Fate that you waste Zero time getting him!

A Prelude: To The New

I'm well aware that I'm VERY slow with the review updates! Rest assured that the same reason is the very same hurdle I am facing that prevents most of me from getting some of these out. Also, as we are all aware, THE RED is no longer so rebuilding my new Game Room is a process. One that is taking more time than I intended (just like everything else).

But today is a special day so...I just want to share the things that I have done to spoil myself. And yes, that also includes the ones I have yet gotten the chance to review.

Future Reviews

So these are the stragglers that didn't make it to THE RED's display. Shame. But that just means I'll have a brand new league to review when I have my next game room all set up and ready. I'm not sure how that is going to look or what I'm going to be doing with it, all I know is that it's not going to be 'customized' for me but I know one day I'll get a game room again.

BUT! Been waiting to review Kiritsugu Emiya for a while now! And that Harley Quinn! And not to mention, I have a whole lot more coming this way soon! So here's to the future reviews!

Collection Update

Before I list the 'coming' additions, I might as well show who ARE in my collection that came late March. Yes that is another POP in the form of Peebee from ME: Andromeda. And I FINALLY own Kiritsugu, which I am excited to open and review. And to fluff up my Spiderverse collection, here comes Spider-UK. I'm a bit hesitant to open these for reasons... I am not yet ready to convey. When I do open them, obviously I'll review them like normal. Now, on to the upcoming additions that I most likely will follow through. All are preordered!

First, let me start out by saying that I'm not a big fan of Tom Holland Spider-man for reasons of my own. I think the costume looks nice though so that's why he's on the list!

I've always wanted a good Supergirl figure and DC Icons seems to be able to deliver on that. And yes, a whole lot of Harleys in this list AND a couple of Spider-Gwens.

And I still have yet to get the Mafex Suicide Squad Harley! It's been damn near a whole year! I wonder if the delay is because they are trying to improve on their product? I hope so. And yes, finally! A Chun Li figure coming up with some awesome accessories and articulation.

This set I want because it has a lot of characters I like. The BAF is pretty unique too so I can't complain all in all. Admitedly, Legends' prices are going up higher than I would like but hey... what can I do, right? So those are the 'for sure' ones. I do have a long list I plan on getting, whether by this year or the next. I swear, somewhere along the line I might have to stop... seriously.

Figma: Samus Aran (Zero Suit) "Other M"

When was the last time I posted something about Samus from Metroid? Never, right? Well, never that's for sure. It's because I'm not a big Samus fan. I barely know anything about her. So why get a Figma of her? Because when I saw it on BBTS's website, she looked damn good and does she fit the impulse preorder buy? Let's find out.

No doubt about it, Figma simplified the designs of their boxes for the sake of... well, simplicity. I am not against it since boxes don't do that much for me. They are pretty awesome still and I will always appreciate the small snippets of what the figure could do with the prototype pics of the product throughout the box.

Now while I am not a big time knowledgeable fan of Samus, I do know a little bit to get me through the basics. This figure version of her is called "Zero Suit"; it states that she ... well, as 'awesome' as that title states, it's just saying that she doesn't have her Suit; her REAL suit. Her armor. This is pretty much her 'lining' inside; it reminds me of Tony Stark's gold 'skin suit' that allows his armor to function with his body. Translate it to a figure, and we get this nice metallic blue that is peppered with dark blues here and there. It's a pretty clean paint all throughout; the pink logo that appears on her back and left hand are nicely done as well. We'll talk about the only skin tone here in a bit when we review the face.

Her mold is as standard as Figma can when it's a 'naked body' Figma mold can go. I will point out that she is tiny and she feels smaller than my other Figmas. My gripe about her just mold wise is that when you make her stand in certain vanilla poses, her neck seems to hunch over making her awkward here and there. Also, they did skip out on something that could have made her more vibrant and different: those bright yellow shoes. Oh well.

Standard Figma accessories: stand, bag, alternate faces, alternate hands, hand holders, and an accessory that is true to the character; for Samus' case, her gun--a holstered and unholstered version. She has her alternate head, which we will talk about here.

We get a 'stern' face and a 'happier' face. They're not dynamic enough to garner praise or bad to make me criticize it. It just feels mediocre, but she's pretty enough. I like the hair; it's barely articulated, but it does nicely. Her skin colors and other paints are clean on both faces sculpt that I can't complain. Speaking of alternate faces, we have her other head which has Samus sporting her shorter hair(a look I wasn't even aware existed until this figure came out).

It's a nice variant, but it's one I won't be displaying her with. I don't know enough about Samus and what I do know about her or when I do know about her, it's when she has the long hair. Though the head piece is a nice touch.

As for articulation, we'll just get right into the idea that she does her role well. It's what we expect out of Figma, anyways so I wasn't too worried. There will be some weird areas here and there and because of the aesthetics that they tried to adhere to, some of Samus' movements are limited and it's hard to get that dynamic pose that you would expect from this character. Still, there was more than enough to sate some good action shots.

And while some of her accessories might prove to be nostalgic or 'homage' for die-hard Samus fans, they just seem to be there just to be there for me.

I had lots of fun posing here around, needless to say. I do wish that she got some firing effects or an angrier face. She is lacking some really good emotions, but maybe Samus really doesn't show emotion. I don't know.

In the end, she is a pretty cool figure. For a Figma, it feels like it's missing a few thing but I won't say she is a bad figure but since I have no real connection to the character, I'll give her a B- in fun factor. Just not based on character knowledge or love, Samus does fall short on accessories, lacking some alternate faces, and Figma feels like they palyed it safe--simple. But what came out, came out nice and what they tried to do turned out awesome. I recommend her, for sure.
