ML Dormamu BAF: Dr. Strange (Marvel NOW)

Another magical appearance from Stephen Strange! What did you expect? It's a Dr. Strange movie wave! This particular Dr. Strange is the updated comic book version; it's a time of Strange that I am not familiar with but I do know it's the time when he received his Sorcerer Supreme title once more. So as a figure, is it truly that supreme among all Strange figures?

The art on the side is pretty cool. And as you can tell, the images on the back depicts the duo that are the running changes of one another. "Sorcerer Supremes".

This was the time when I dropped off the comic book world completely so I am not familiar how Dr. Strange regained his title of Sorcerer Supreme. All I know is that he joined the ranks of red and black Super Heroes. And honestly, I will never get tired of a red and black ensemble, especially when it is peppered with some gold in there. So in terms of comic book accurate, this is legit. The paint job may not offer too much in terms of variations, but the gold and red pops out enough against the black that it isn't muted.

The mold is standard and the face structure resembles a bearded man to equal Stephen Strange well enough. The body mold itself should be familiar enough with it being the go to mold for Hasbro when it comes to average male characters. I don't think Strange should be muscular by any means, at least not as much as this mold portray him to be, but I suppose it does the trick.

Strange comes with the cloak and the 'magic' special effects that were first introduced as Hex Magic from the Scarlet Witch we got from the Odin BAF wave last year. Sadly, Strange over here does not offer much in terms of accessories, but I suppose that's something I expected.

As far as his articulation goes, I don't think I have many complaints, nor am I awed. It is standard and one can get Strange to some magical poses. Strange is no acrobat, nor is he a fighter like Iron Fist or Blade, so I suppose the usual 'stand regal and look magically dangerous' was enough to get this figure to a decent few poses. I swear Hasbro needs to consider adding some stands, but that would hike up the cost so, I'm mostly okay with them not including any of that. But for those who are curious, his 'sash' and his cloak does hinder some movements, but I got enough poses to complete his photo shoot.

Here is Marvel NOW Strange next to his classic version from the Galactus BAF wave (this was back in the day when I did not review every figure in the wave AND my picture qualities were horrendous). The 2016 Dr. Strange definitely has some height but fewer details and not as 'unique'. BUT I had a thought:

Giving him the Toybiz cloak works well enough. The said cloak isn't stiff like the one that came with this figure and it is poseable! I was on a coin toss on the idea of keeping this cloak on him, but I ultimately chose his standard one. Might swap later, though.

In conclusion, I did not thoroughly enjoy this figure. It's not a bad figure and definitely more compliant with poses than his Cinematic counterpart, but he lacks details. He is also very generic... so does that make him an instant 'hidden' figure? No. He'll replace my old Strange since I was in dire need of a new one. Truth to be told, he's not a bad figure, but I haven't been a REAL Dr. Strange fan at all through the years. I've mostly enjoyed him in Illuminati and his interactions with the other Marvel characters. So with this figure, it was more of a 'must'. But he is not the dud of the wave, honestly. He's still displayed and I will say that I have an updated Dr. Strange figure in my collection now.
