DC Collectibles: Suicide Squad Harley Quinn

This was an unexpected toy to come my way and it was for a very frugal price! Frugal and VERY welcome to have in my collection. This is the New 52 Harley Quinn who is part of a group called: Suicide Squad. For her costume, it's not my favorite though the theme of her being a female jester does fit rather well! Let's move on then.

So this one definitely is tailored for the Suicide Squad team; not so interested in the other figures in this line for sure. The box design is familiar as well so nothing to gawk at at all. Though it's a good box if one really wants to keep her mint.

Details on this figure is well done and I have to say even if I am not the biggest fan of her New 52 outfit, I do say that this has an incredible likeness to it! The one thing I would say is that the face doesn't entirely capture Harley's 'cute-psycho' attractiveness, though it's not horrendous. What truly makes this figure for me thug his the colors and the vibrant red and blue combination that truly makes her pale skin stick out! The mold on its own seems a bit on the 'muscular' side for Harley; a little lankier(but endowed) frame would probably be far more adequate. Again it's not bad, just not the Harley I know from the animated series and the Arkham games.

Harley's accessories are indeed signature weapons but in terms of details and wow factor it comes off as 'meh'. Not badly sculpted but really lacking some designs or even variation on the pain job. I would think for her hammer at least they would make it whimsical and Harley like instead of an insipid looking one. The guns could use a bit more flare but they are certainly far better than her mallet.

Articulation wise? Definitely its weakest link! The articulation reminds me of some of the toys I had way back in the mid 90's, though slightly better! It has a few things that older figures didn't have like bicep swivel, thigh swivel, and the pigtail swivel(yes! Hair articulation!), but she lacks certain things like ankle pivot, wrist movement, abdomen crunch and swivel, and so much more! Action poses are so limited with her that it's kind of lackluster for such a great looking figure! It's even hard to get Harley to get into poses that she would be known for like some kind of sensual but psycho stance with her mallet or something! Her arms don't reach enough so she can have some kind of crazy pose with them either.

Best that could be done with such an articulation mobility!

All in all she isn't a bad figure. I'm definitely glad I have her and for the price that she cost, no complaints! No need to complain at all! She makes a good addition to my Harley Quinn figures! Though truly she made more sense as a statue than anything else(makes me wonder why I didn't put my Bishoujo on display here... oh well). 

Mattel: Injustice & New 52 Batman

So I didn't plan on letting my collection grow as much anymore(and truthfully, the expansion had decreased in speed by a LOT ever since my life changing event). However someone came home with this certain version of the Dark Knight! It's his Injustice(default) armor! Probably not going out of the box but just from the look of it, the intricate details and almost the mirror image of the video game version is quite enamoring! He is a bit smaller in contrast to the other one I have, but hey, no complaints!

 

I am a huge fan of the New 52 attires. Almost all DC characters got a do over with such fine and modern details(Even allowed Wonder Woman to show off as much skin as before but updating the looks of her costume!). While to the untrained eyes the looks might just be mere lines drawn into the used to be 'tights', I would surmise it's merely announcing the notion that it's no longer tights for most of them; they are 'armor'. That's how I perceive Batman's new look in the new 52! And while this toy has been in my possession for months now, I think it's the first time I really posted about it.

So the DC wall is expanding and running out of room. Surprise surprise!!! Well, suffice to say that these Batmen are NOT as exhilarating as the Playarts Kai version(Playarts: Batman Arkham Asylum), they do some justice. Again, not complaining.

DC Collectibles: New 52 Wonder Woman

It's strange actually. With the life changing event that had transpired with me, the posts and the pictures on this genre are dwindling down to few and far between. I guess it isn't here and now to be venting about this, but I goes as I have somewhat insinuated in one of my post(Stark Irony Variation), things are shifting in terms of my interest/s. But I must also retract a bit of the potency of that statement! I'm not going to give up my collection or STOP vehemently! Just, slowing down I suppose. Well, enough of that! Time to talk about the real blog of the "day".

 

So I purchased a DC Collectibles of Wonder Woman from the New 52 storyline. I must say it's a good looking Wonder Woman adaptation. Not a bad price; of course I purchased it from a local comic book store on which I assume rack the price up a buck or two just to make profit(of course! As he should! Support your local comic book store!). I don't think I will be taking her out of her box; I'll just buy the 'cheaper' version of this same toy if I am to have one 'out of the box'. Of course I rearranged the DC wall so that she would have company.

I have never been a big fan of Super Man as I have mentioned a lot of times before.... I have also somewhat elaborated, somewhat (JL: Superman and Wonder Woman kissing) on that notion. But if there is one thing that I can say that attracts me about the 'Man of Steel' is that slight spark between him and Wonder Woman. It had always been obscure, and the most I have seen it (and take into consideration that I have a small hand into DC history) is in Kingdom Come. But in the New 52, well, they have done a good job building that up as it would seem....

...Two...

I also like the fact that HOW they are building it up. A world where they are pariahs of the norm; a world where they have all this power... their world would only be convenient and adequate when they express their need to solace in each other's comfort...

AND BAM!!!! Super Speed!!!

I know it's cliche, but what makes it so whimsical and breath taking is Jim Lee's art! I mean, look at this final picture!!! That is sensual, romantic, and deserving of praise. Good Job, DC!

Catwoman Vol. 1; The New 52

One of my first few posts in this Blog after my 'minor' disappearance involves a thick graphic novel that is a compilation of all first issues of DC's 'The New 52' (Thickest Graphics Novels). While shame for me to admit that I did not thoroughly go through each one, I will say that the ones I did go through, I managed to purchase some of the complete issues. Catwoman is one of them.

Now I don't know how I will fare with doing Graphic novel reviews; in fact, I don't know how often I will be doing them since reading, believe it or not, isn't exactly on the highest of my priority with the plethora of things I indulge myself. However I want to point this graphic novel out for the wonders it offers. Art is by far whimsical as it can be very attracting. The artist knows his Catwoman/Selina Kyle very well and he lays her on the page with sensual and very dominant feel to her. I have enjoyed every turning of the page and with every art, it captures the very provocative sass that Catwoman have been known for. And art is just about everything in the comic book industry... at least for me it is.

Of course the story and dialogue has to be properly cooked up as well, and to me, simple and maybe a bit cliched the story is, it still offers entertainment. While the art very much well captures the  essence of Selina's visage, the writing had the flare to round up her sense of self and her very volatile attitude when it comes to decisions. Not only that, it does justice to her rapport with her key characters and one major player in the industry and that is of course: Batman.

And most of the costume stays on.

And another thing about this graphic novel is that it adds a little bit of fan service for those who have 'special needs' (for lack of a better phrase). It may not be as sensual as the picture above, but for some of us, it adds a bit of glory.

So in a very terse closing note, this is a very well worth read. It was short, fun, and like all of DC's The New 52, it doesn't DEMAND too much prior knowledge when it comes to these characters. While Catwoman is one that I am a bit more familiar with than most DC characters, I felt that this one added a bit more light to her and it didn't spell too much intimidation when delving into someone I am not as keen with as say, Spider-Woman or Black Cat.

Superman and Wonder Woman

While I have never been a big fan of Superman and all his insipid adventures (sorry, his personality and the contrast of SUPER strong but fallible to SUPER weak when a certain kryptonite comes around), I do find his romance with Wonder Woman enticing. The New 52 seems to have rekindled this fame and I can only fathom if this cover serves the rest of the comic book justice or is it merely a ruse to get fans to buy the issue and then come to open it to find there is nothing even close...

Regardless, Jim Lee's art is always exhilarating. One of the best in the industry in my opinion and a plethora of other comic book fans.

My Thickest Graphic Novels

Look how thick these things are!

I did mention that I was going to be receiving 'The New 52' sometime in the mail. Well, I finally did and that thing is thick as fuck! My next thickest graphic novel is Highschool of The Dead, but that still pales in comparison. Well, I'll be doing a review on these sometime in the future!

The New 52

Now is a good time to delve into DC comics. Don't worry Marvel, I'm not going to abandon you. I just want the best of two worlds now! Well, this expensive graphic novel is on the way! I'll be giving a full blown review pretty soon!!!
