Disney Showcase: Frozen Fever Elsa

Well, I did say I had a pretty cool souvenir from my Disneyland trip, didn't I? I wasn't going to leave that place without some kind of Elsa related figure! No way! This little beauty may not be my favorite Elsa dress, but she is still gorgeous and this is an OFFICIAL Disney product. So, let's check her out.

The box is nothing to gawk over.  It's pretty simple, concealing, and definitely not something that defines the work placed in the figure inside. But to judge this figure by the box is kind of asinine, to say the least. But it does offer some good protection for this fragile figure. So let's get on with it.

So just as a warning, I didn't use a lot of flash in these pics because it somehow made this figure look awful (most shots I took, anyway). So you'll see a lot of natural light at the time I took these pics.

Now, this figure is not like my common statue in my collection. It's delicate and no other purpose but for display. Now 'only for display' paraphernalia is not exactly out of the norm for me, but a very delicate figure is definitely something I don't usually have. But with that set in mind, that doesn't mean that this figure lacks in good sculpt. She's very well made and the details are not sacrificed. The posture is very Elsa like, and it's definitely something we've seen before (I'll definitely touch on that again). ALl the little details on her dress are all sculpted well and they definitely do their job defining this summer dress of hers.

Now as far as her colors, it's well done. But I did mention there was something odd about the coating that just makes her look unnatural with flash (or maybe I wasn't getting the right lighting and was too tired to get it right). But regardless, there are different shades of green to enjoy, her skin tone is just right, the pink flowers that are peppered all over her stand out. The only thing is her hair... seems like a lot of figures have a hard time getting that almost 'white' blonde hair right.

But she is pretty. It's not 100% accurate to Elsa, but it is recognizably Elsa, nonetheless. I love it!

Again, the posture is something VERY familiar. Something I'll touch on right now.

So the posture was definitely used before in the form of the SEGA Elsa. While Frozen Fever Elsa stands a bit more upright compared to her more 'sexy' posed SEGA Elsa counterpart, again, the idea is the same in regards to how she is standing.

Though I think the face on the SEGA Elsa is a bit more accurate (and prettier).

And here she is next to Treasured Collections Elsa. They share no resemblance in posture, that's for sure, but in terms of the type of collectible they are, they have a lot in common. Very fragile and not meant to be moved a whole lot. They're both in the same price range too (well, the SEGA Elsa became the same price range as well due to demand).

Would be cool though if they put her coronation dress in this same posture with the 'let it go' hairstyle. Hard to say which figure looks more like Elsa though and no, I'm not talking about just the hairstyle, but just the faces.... they both capture and not capture Elsa's features.

Kind of cool to see some of the evolution of Elsa. From very paranoid and kind of aggressive to I've-let-my-hair-down(literally), and to the Frozen Fever 'relaxed' posture.

Can't deny that this figure is still beautiful, even if this is not my definitive Elsa look.

One thing is missing though, that nice cut on her dress that shows some legs! Yes, I'm that perverted.

In conclusion, this is a good Elsa statue for those who are adamant Elsa fans like myself. Obvioulsy it's an easy pass, but for me, having visited Disneyland, I couldn't get off the magic without some kind of Elsa merchandise! Suffice it to say, this is a good addition to my Elsa shrine!

The Magic of Disney 2017

So just a quick moment to talk about my recent trip to Disneyland! I think it's pretty obvious that I am a Disney fan(Elsa fan) so to stumble on a post like this on my page is very likely. That and I managed to go to a magical place that I believe everyone should experience at least once. And for those who haven't gone here and is somehow reading my page, to quote Scar: BE PREPARED to spend a lot of money. I know I did!

Food and souvenirs! Expect that! By the way, the giant turkey leg... a must. I had to hunt this sucker down and really chomp on it! I ate at other places too, but this one has to get a highlight.

Now, this was a cool place to be in since, you know, I am a big time Frozen fan. Got to meet the current models for Elsa and Anna. I went here twice, honestly. Two different nights and let me just say that I think there were two models of Elsa... and they were pretty enough to be Elsa. Honestly, all the models for the Princesses were pretty as heck! But I'm biased in regards to Elsa, as you all should probably guess by now. Also, I bought the Elsa hoodie for the sake of showcasing it on this trip... BUT it was too darn hot to even think of a hoodie.

But this particular room also showcases some of the 'behind-the-scenes' of some of our famous and beloved Disney movies.

Disneyland is a pretty fantastic place to be. Spent a lot of money and got some pretty cool souvenir, but it was a revitalizing place. I am enamored by the vibe that is still emanating from my memories. It inspired and made me feel a lost innocence. It was also a trip for a special someone in my life so I'm glad she had fun. The place is a must, that's for sure, to anyone.

DuDs: Elsa Sweater

Once again, I delved into the possibilities of Redbubble! While the supply of Elsa clothing is not lacking by any means, for the male demographic... it's lacking for sure.

Somehow, I knew that Redbubble will pull through for me. This design is awesome because while it's obviously an Elsa design, it's subtle to a point that it might take a second look to completely recognize her. Suffice to say, I welcome this addition! With a sweater like this, the cold will never bother me... or it might. It's lightweight! Anyways!

Treasured Collections: Coronation Elsa

While an Elsa statue isn't exactly something that doesn't belong in my collection, this particular piece may have come out of the left field considering what it is. It's not even a doll or anything, so like I said, a bit odd. But it is a statue of Elsa in her Coronation outfit so I dare say it's worth being in my collection. So let's get into the review!

Right from the get go I will say that shipment and handling for this figure was not done correctly. First off, it doesn't have a box! So for anyone ordering from here can be warned that this Elsa was not properly fit for transport. I was miffed to see that her right hand(gloved) was broken and her left one had some dents and cracks. Super glue and black permanent marker fixed the issues, but still!

Again, her coronation gown is my favorite that she has worn so far(her winter dress might be coming up a close second). The figure does a fine job capturing some of that well combine coloring, the almost subtle signature designs. The pose is a reenacted scene from Frozen, the part when Anna kept bombarding Elsa after pulling off her gloves and boom, Elsa accidentally reveals that she has magic!

Detail is something that is important with Elsa's Coronation dress. Like I mentioned, she does have familiar designs all over her, subtle, but they are there so a figure depicting Elsa in her coronation gown has to capture those trademark designs and I think it did.

Colors are important! One of the things about Elsa's Coronation outfit that I loved so much more than her Snow Queen outfit is the fact that it had a good mixture of dark colors (burgundy and black) with the brighter teal. Also, it was peppered with gold and green, which makes the small floral designs pop out despite the dominant colors around it. The symbol on her cloak is well done too! After all, it's the cloak and the designs on it that really makes this outfit pop. The base and the ice is a bit 'corny', but I'm not complaining that much.

Here's Elsa next to the only other Coronation Elsa I have in my collection(sadly), the POP version. I think the two, despite their difference in theme, they do a very good job adapting Elsa's first adult gown into plastic version.

And of course my other treasured statue of Elsa, the SEGA version.

And of course, the Elsa shrine continues within The New. Despite having limited figures on the market that would fit my theme(you know, figures that are NOT DOLLS), I think I have a pretty decent Elsa collection.

As a final word, I think this is a pretty cool statue. With the bad experience of receiving it broken, the high retail price despite it not being equal to other statues, I think it has drawbacks. But it is an Elsa Coronation outfit merchandise and it is a must have for me. I think for most, this is an easy pass.

Frozen Skyrim: Elsa in Chains

I don't do Damsel of the Month posts anymore, but that doesn't mean I won't stop to highlight some awesome art that I commission. This lovely picture is obviously taken from an upcoming scene from my Frozen Skyrim fic. Elsa is having... a bad day at the hands of... someone. Anyways, I worked with Alan Vadell on this commission. He is amazing! I can't help but praise just how awesome this artwork is! There are a couple of versions of this. I'll just showcase this one since it's the most popular one. Funny how adding a gag can really increase the likes.

Figma: Elsa the Snow Queen

She's finally here! The Figma I have been waiting for for some time now! From the popular Disney Movie, Frozen, here comes The Snow Queen, Elsa! When I first found out that this was happening, I was elated beyond belief! I mean, really? An Elsa in Figma form? For those who aren't familiar with this fact but I adore Elsa. Figmas are also one of my favorite imports so put them together and... Well let's just get on with the review, shall we?

Elsa comes in a strangely large box. So big that it dwarfs Mikasa's.

It definitely is a Figma box that we all recognize. The design, the layout, the promotions, yes it defines a Figma box.

And it's not like Elsa is a huge figure. She's standard Figma size, which we all know is not a Marvel Legend. But there is a reason as to why the box is a hefty size. Oh, and Frozen in Japanese writing is nice.

Elsa is beautiful and Figma tried their best to really capture that beauty. Now it's not by any means a perfect figure, but it is a great one and I will definitely talk about what are the downside. But there are a lot of good things about this figure and it's not just me being a fan of Elsa talking. Just look at the details and how much they mirrored the Snow Queen. I'll talk about face details later but just the sheer attention to the color scheme. Now I know Figma would not have done this but can one fathom if they just stuck with one or two shades of blue? Instead what Figma did was truly span out to the true colors that make Elsa's Snow Queen dress just damn enamoring. I mean just look at that cape! It's translucent, but peppered with the 'snowflake' theme that she is known for in the movie. It might be a bit more prominent in her figure form compared to the movie version, but it's appreciated!

Here's a side profile of her. They even got that braid detail. And if anyone is wondering about that 'glittery' bustier being a bit of a nuisance, the glitter hasn't fallen off like preschool art projects do when glitter is involved.

Elsa's cut on her dress makes an awesome show off some 'elegant-sexiness' that the Snow Queen is known for and Figma adds it in to do justice to the character. One of my few complaints about her is that the joints aren't as inconspicuous as I would like. Figma can have done a great job in the past, but with certain characters and design, it's just not as easy. Elsa might be one of those examples but it doesn't take away from the figure that much at all.

Now bear in mind that this is a Figma figure so Elsa does come with the Figma bag and a stand--both which I did not put in the picture. The stand, she doesn't really need because I display her with her cape all the time (and have taken pictures of her wearing it all the time) so she could stand on her own; good for me to get an extra stand. Oh and her cape is an accessory; I just didn't put it in the picture because she just looks so cool with it. One thing that Figma collectors might notice: her alternate hands don't come with a 'peg holders', which I didn't think I'd miss so much until I didn't have it. No worries though since we still get the bag. Now to talk about her accessories a bit more.

Along with the standard variant faces and hands that Figma is known for, Elsa is equipped with two 'snow magic' effects. They do well enough but they only truly 'shine' when shown in a different angle. They are limited in picture dynamics, but again, they are adequate. Now to talk about the faces. She comes with a 'singing' face, a 'smiling' face, and her 'cocked eyebrow' seductive face. Those variations on their definitely give us enough variety (an angry face might do well, or her worried look, but I'm not going to gripe over that). Now, Let me show off the pictures here:

singing face
That is her singing face. Notice something? Yes, the eyes. I FINALLY have a figure that has 'articulated eyes'! What?

Sensual/cocked eyebrow face
The same face can do a lot more with that feature. Believe me, it hikes up the fan service even more because it gets even more dynamic!

neutral happy face
How is this done? Well if you go back to the picture with all her accessories(almost all) lined up, you can see a plain white 'pick'. That is what you use to hook into one of her eyes in the back(decided not to show a picture, it's pretty easy), and with that little tool, you can move Elsa's eyes any way you see, please! Definitely an amazing addition!

Figma isn't the first to add this feature(think Hot Toys) in, but Elsa is the first figure I have that has this innovative feature. Truly a marvelous thing. Trust me. You can make her look as pacifist as you want, seductive, or just downright evil through certain angles.

Now since we are on the topic of accessories, I have to put Olaf in this. Now, while I am not a fan of Olaf, I will say that adding him in most articulated Elsa figure is a must in more ways than one. He is after all one of the best showcases of Elsa's powers. Sure she can shoot beams of ice, make ice castle, make it snow, or whatever. But Olaf... she can create life. That's something else. Makes her powers even more confusing at times especially when you factor in that she can alter clothing? Back to Olaf as an accessory, the snowman is the Olaf we know. He has decent shading and he is molded quite well. Some articulation. AND he has that articulated eyes feature which gives him a bit more dynamic as well.

Now as far as Elsa's articulation, you do get your standard Figma range of movements. The only thing is that her lower body, while still equipped with the standard joints on her legs, she doesn't really move much, nor should she. She won't be doing any Spider-Woman like movements, and her character design really inhibits much more than a bend here and there with her legs. Sure that cut on her dress does allow more range of movement, but all in all, the plastic isn't soft enough to offer that much dynamic, which again, why does she need it? Oh, something to note is that her sleeves are a bothersome here and there. While it is true to the character, the sleeves do not allow the peg on her hands to sit deep enough, so sometimes her hand and that tiny sleeve might fall off. They should have made the 'mushroom' system so that the pegs on her hands can catch and sit better. Her braid on her left side is articulated too so that really make some poses more elevated.

Again, those eyes just really bake the cake! Or for this case, tops the ice cream... okay that was bad. Let me just add a few pictures here. But seriously, that cape as well is awesome. Look at those details! The translucent and 'ice' like the way it is made. Sure it could be more dynamic, but what can I say? It's amazing!

See? Evil-like, yes?

Here she is next to Olaf. To be honest, as much as I don't like Olaf, it's a nice thing that they added him. Though I'd take those two face variations, a more 'dynamic cape', and a few more ice effects over him. I'm just saying.

Here's Elsa next to her Nendroid version. And while we are at it, here is Olaf next to his Nendroid version as well. Again, they have the same gimmick, just one is a bit more 'chibified' than the other. Though Olaf looks just about the same 'anatomy wise'. Then again, they are both from Good Smile so the fact that Elsa, despite being chibi, looks identical color wise just points out some consistency. When I got the Nendroid, I was really hoping that it was a sign of a "normal sized" version of her, and here we are.

Here is Elsa next to her SEGA statue counterpart, one of my favorite Elsa piece I own. If there is one thing I can mention here is that statues can get details that articulated figures can't (least not without sacrificing some movement). Just compare Elsa's sleeves. There are some details of the dress that the SEGA captured and the Figma can't. But other than that, the hair for both is amazing(different shades of blonde, but still Elsa accurate in my opinion), the faces are beautiful, and they all showcase Elsa's amazing cape in their own way.

And yes, I updated the location of Elsa's 'shrine'. She's part of this Update now! So check that post to see where things are.

Is that... ALDUIN? #FrozenSkyrim (Here)
What can I say about this figure? I have been waiting for an Elsa figure like this and here we are. I had high hopes for this figure and she pretty much reached 98% of those expectations. Sure she has some flaws, sure she's missing some details that I'm surprised Figma didn't implement, but all in all, this is a definitive Elsa articulated figure to date! Do yourself a favor, if you are an Elsa fan, this is a must. If you are a Figma fan, this one truly highlights some of Figma's best qualities. She's pricey, which is one of her biggest downfalls, but truly, she is worth it in my opinion. She will definitely be in the ranks for 2017's highlights for sure.
